In this restaurant you should order their crispy fried chicken and chicken with salted fish fried rice, really like their interior design and a very bright place.
A great place except that it's hard to park your car because of the road condition of its site. The staffs are very friendly and accomodating and that the food is really great. Purely Chinese restaurant I would recommend it.
THE PLACE Hap Chan Tomas Mapua Branch is a typical Chinese restaurant that you can see in Binondo. The ambiance of the old Chinese restaurant plus a modern fusion of architecture is really a great combination. By the way they will served you a house blend hot tea while waiting for your food. Address: 600 Tomas Mapua Street, Santa Cruz, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines thesatastefiedchef(4) thesatastefiedchef THE FOOD We ordered our favorite, Yangchow fried rice, Hakaw and Sauteed Beef Broccoli. And we also added assorted cold cuts on our order. thesatastefiedchef(1) Hap Chan’s Yangchow (more or less P220) had no yellow coloring and had a lot of ingredients incorporated like shrimp, chives, chorizo, egg and cabbage. What I really like about their Yangchow is you can feel that it has no grease in it. They incorporate just a few oil when they cook their Yangchow. thesatastefiedchef(3) Hap Chan’s Sauteed Beef Broccoli (more or less P240) on the other hand has so much oil in it. (I think you can see it in the photo), but even though it has a lot of oil, the beef is tender and eat to chew, which I think is really cooked to perfection. The broccoli is crunchy which I really love and adore because I really wanted my veggies to be half cooked only. thesatastefiedchef(5) Hap Chan’s Hakaw (P90) had 8 pleats they follow the traditional way of doing Hakaw. The wrapper of their Hakaw was very translucent and not easily peeled when you use fork or chopsticks. When I cut the Hakaw into two it had spices inside, which I think gives the Hakaw a new twist. thesatastefiedchef(2) Hap Chan’s assorted cold cuts (P315) are very luscious. It contains century egg, asado, tofu, seaweeds and something that tastes like squid but looks like an asado. For our dessert, which I don’t have a photo is Almond Jelly with Lychee (P60) this dessert freshen up our mouth after the very savory and spicy meal we ate. THE TEMPERATURE Hap Chan served their food straight from their wok to the plate. THE SERVER Hap Chan’s servers are not smiling when they approach you to get your order. They are really hard to ask for something and they are gossiping while at work and they even answer back to one of the customers complaining why their food is not yet served. To quote what they said “Frozen po kasi yung isda (the fish is still frozen)”. I think they should not answer that way and they should apologize to the customer for not serving it on time. THE PRICE Hap Chan’s price is very affordable we ate so much, but it only cost us P1,025. The food is good for 2-3 persons. THE VERDICT Our Hap Chan’s overall verdict for the food is very good except for the Beef Broccoli due to over usage of oil. I would give their servers a score of 1 out of 5 due to their attitude towards customer and I think they should encourage their employees to treat their customers as VIP as possible. I can visit Hap Chan again, but I think not this branch anymore due to the poor customer service.
