Amy's Fish and Chips - Richmond Hill

I arrived around Close to closing time. Showed my Vax pass. Placed my order and picked a table. Cashier was bored. Laying with his chest and chin on the counter. No hello, no pleasantries, no interest. Just place your order, pay up, and pick...a table. The restaurant is also very tired. Like the owners don't care. Now the good news. Nicest pieces of Halibut I've had in a while. Crisp, clean batter. Firm fish. Coleslaw was excellent. Now some bad news. The fries were well below par. Under-cooked, and tasteless. I was unable to finish them The core of any fish and chip shop is the quality of the fish and batter. That's evident here. But the fries let down the side, badly. It's just a detail, but a detail like this in addition to the tired store front and disinterested staff is likely preventing repeat business.

Quick service. Good portion sizes for the price (Family Pack). Best halibut and chips in town, good gravy too.

Went there for our monthly ‘retiree’ group lunch. It’s a cosy, family run place. I ordered the grilled halibut with salad and fries. Delicious home-cooked goodness! Gracious, accommodating staff! Comfortable, clean ambiance!

Stopped in for an early dinner. Lots of tables available. Service was fast and friendly. Ordered haddock and chips. The fish was great with a very light batter. Chips were fresh and hot. Price was great as well. Will return as we are always happy...with the food, service and price.

When I am in this area , I go to Amy’s. Consistent light battered fish. With fries and coleslaw. I usually get a garden salad as well. The owners are courteous and nice.
