I went inside and asked for some water, and he kindly filled it up with ice-cold water on a scorching day. I’ll always be grateful for his kindness.
During my visit, I noticed that the restaurant primarily caters to its regular patrons. Unfortunately, one of these regulars backed into my car before driving away. I reported the incident to the Richmond Heights Police, who informed me that this isn’t the first time they’ve received similar reports about this establishment.
On Fridays during Lent, they offer a fish fry. They're also working on adding new dishes for Thursdays—so far, they've featured a Polish-style kielbasa and potatoes, as well as a lamb and beef stew on different weeks. As always, there's a bar. Thanks to the renovations, the interior no longer smells like cigarettes, as they have moved smoking to a covered outdoor area. The beer selection is surprisingly good and reasonably priced, featuring standard AB products along with local craft brews like UCBC and 4 Hands on tap during our last visit. When the weather is nice, they have tables and chairs set up outdoors, allowing for social distancing. Inside, seating is limited, but we were able to sit at tables in the hall while maintaining social distance during food service.
The bartenders at the VFW are always friendly and welcoming. They've successfully adapted to COVID-19 precautions by conducting temperature checks for patrons. Great job, VFW 3500!
My group wound up booking the backroom for our party, and we had a blast!!
