The Hard Shell - Richmond

Nice and romantic little room, I love him here. Our server was attentive and friendly. Street parking and a parking garage nearby. We ordered crabcakes, scallops and crab soup to begin with. The scallops were well cooked and had a ton of taste. Crab cakes were more like small pattys, but still very tasteful and I liked the house tartaric acid sauce made them. The soup was really good, but not too much crab meat inside. I ordered the Hard Shell Pasta and my friend ordered the Oven-Roasted Rockfish. My pasta came with lots of seafood and the tomatoes Basilikum marinara was delicious. The rock was very well cooked and had a great sailor. I ordered a glass of the Seven Falls Cabernet and he ordered the Apricot Old Fashioned and later the Blackberry Bramble. The old fashion was somewhat different from your standard old-fashioned, not so strong and it seemed a little lacking in taste. I loved the Blackberry Bramble, it was sweet and easy to drink. Overall I loved the ambience of the place and the food was delicious.

Starting with the positive: nice atmosphere and very good service. We ordered raw oysters to start and they tasted good but were not cleaned well, leaving a lot of grit in our mouths. My wife ordered the shrimp pasta. The shrimp were good sized and cooked well but the it was way too heavily sauced, looking more like a soup in the bowl than a pasta dish. I ordered the lobster roll and for the price $28), was very disappointed. The lobster tasted good and the roll had a good toast. The portion , though, was tiny. It looked like it basically had the meat from maybe one claw on it. We probably could have gone to Red Lobster and gotten a similar meal for about half the cost. Disappointing.

We're out of town. We made a weekend visit to Richmond and we were looking for Oysters. We were here and really had a good experience. We sat at the bar, loved the mood, staff were friendly and efficient. Our bartender was super helpful to do with all the things in the area. This restaurant is really nice and has such a good mood. Food was excellent and drinks were on the spot. We'll be back at the next visit. Thank you.

We came across this place by chance, even if he's been in business for many years. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We started with Calamari and then my husband had the Angus Burger and I had the fish tacos (served with a delicious and fresh side salad). We'll be back soon and often!
