Metro Diner - Richmond

During our travels through Richmond, we discovered Metro Diner thanks to the fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor, and we were not disappointed! We received a warm welcome as soon as we entered, and our friendly waitress provided excellent recommendations on what to order. The food was incredible! I opted for the large breakfast (even though it was lunchtime), while my wife chose the Shrimp and Grits. Both dishes were outstanding! In fact, it was the best Shrimp and Grits I've ever had. It’s definitely worth the trip to visit Metro Diner, and we will make sure to return the next time we are in RVA.

Their version of huevos rancheros was honestly so unexpectedly delicious. I didn’t order it but ate half the fried jalapeños from the plate. The San Francisco Eggs Benedict was pretty standard but equally delicious. Kaylee was our server and she was super sweet and attentive. The diner had great food, fast and friendly service so we’ll be back.

We were a bit puzzled by the limited dessert options displayed on a chalkboard on the wall. Jay explained that this restaurant makes most of its desserts in-house and rotates the menu daily, which is why they aren't listed in the main menu. On the day we visited, they had apple cobbler and key lime pie, though we didn't indulge this time since we were already stuffed from our hearty meals. The portion sizes are quite generous, so you'll definitely leave satisfied. While chatting with Jay, he informed us about a gentleman in a pink shirt who had come up from Jacksonville, FL, where the original Metro Diner is located, to train the staff here. This ensures that the quality and consistency are maintained across all their locations. Since it was our first time here, we will definitely be back to try more of the delicious dishes.

What a fantastic local spot! The service was incredibly friendly, making me feel like part of the family. The food was delicious and came out quickly, with generous portion sizes. I even tried the grits, and they were spot on! This place offers all the beloved favorites, so I can't wait to return and explore new dishes each time. The freshly ground coffee was the best I've had at a restaurant in ages – it had a great flavor, was bold without being burnt, and was served piping hot. I will definitely be coming back!
