Ph Gastropub - Ribeira Grande

By the first look; this looks like a simple sports bar with maybe some chips and nuts to serve. But don’t judge a book by it’s cover. It’s actually my favorite place in Ribeira Grande after staying here for a week and trying different fancy and non fancy places. The hotel we stay at (Verde Mar) “wouldn’t recommend it” even though they said several of their guest were pleased with it. Probably because it doesn’t fit their “5 star hotel profile”. The only minus was that we had to wait a bit for the food, but as long as your prepared to wait a little extra, while sipping your drink this is a very good choice! We had tuna stake and shrimp tacos, both lovely. Their appetizers are also great. We had spinach crochets and chicken wings. Happy with everything and the portions are generous.

Excellent traditional and modern Português food, very professional and kind waitress and chef.

Huge portions and reasonably priced! Massive homemade burger in a soft, giant, fresh bun. Local beer is nice and refreshing and service is very friendly, helpful, and they speak perfect English.

Very good food and kind team! The Tacos are very big. I’m a grown man and one portion was enough for me. The fries are great and the location has an easy going style. See you next time!

Arrived back to Ribeira Grande late one evening and couldn’t get a reservation for dinner anywhere. This place was recommended by the receptionist at the hotel so we thought we’d give it a go. When we asked if the kitchen was still open the lady that owned it replied ‘the kitchen won’t close until you have eaten’. The food was good, portions were great, price was fair and the beer was cold! It was the service that won it for us, we felt like we were visiting an aunt for dinner as she really took care of us. So much so that we went back again a couple of nights later.
