Grass growing out of the gutters and fag ends a plenty. We did receive a message on the day of our arrival to say “your room is ready for check-in. We look forward to welcoming you! Just a little pre arrival information. We are in the middle of a full weather proofing and restoration on the exterior of the building. This work has not been fully completed and does not affect the interior of the inn. We look forward to your arrival. Best wishes The Ferry Inn” The pub has definitely seen better days, decor is dirty and in need of renovation like the outside. We had to squeeze past a lady sitting on the step smoking to get in, only to find she was the barmaid and told us our room was up the stairs and 1st on the left. She told us to come down to the bar if we needed anything and to let ourselves out the fire exit in the morning. There was no kitchen available so we couldn’t eat at the pub. No breakfast is available either. We had booked a deluxe double room. The owners need a dictionary as it was far removed from deluxe. Our bedroom, no 1 was directly above the bar so it was very loud, there was music playing until 1am. Then there was the glass bottles being cleared away and dumped followed by the smell of bacon cooking at 1.45am! The room had a double bed and a single, the mattress springs were completely gone on one side of the double bed and you sank into it. We had a shower as we had been on a long flight, the water didn’t drain properly so a check of the drain revealed copious amounts of hair blocking the outlet which we cleaned out as we were concerned about it overflowing. We woke with itchy eyes and sneezing, which could be from the amount of dust behind the bed and bedside tables or the cobwebs. We found a bottle of medication behind the headboard from January 2023 and someone’s lip salve at the bottom of the bed. The shower room floor had a completely loose floor tile and several cracked ones which caught your sole when stepping off the bath mat. The kettle had to be plugged in to the socket beside the bedside table, which was loose and wouldn’t pass any electrical inspection as it wasn’t secured to the wall. it’s an old building, lots of character but definitely a very very tired building in need of renovation and much greater attention to detail for the cleaners.
Overnight Stay … BEEN MADE TO CANCEL AT LAST MINUTE WARNING! If you book here through booking.com don’t be surprised if you receive an email at short notice telling you that they can’t accommodate you and that YOU need to cancel the booking. We booked a family room at the Ferry Inn in January to stop there at the end of June but a week before we are due to arrive we received an email informing us that WE need to cancel the booking. We thought this was odd so telephoned the Ferry Inn to find out was this legit and why. Surely if the establishment can’t accommodate our booking THEY should cancel it, not us. Or if Booking.com had mucked up and double booked the room then THEY should automatically cancel it. We telephoned the Ferry Inn a total of five times on different days at different times, twice I left messages on the answerphone with my issue, and my contact details and asking if someone could ring me back. No one ever did. The other times we actually spoke to someone. The first man said ring back to speak to the manager Mel. We never managed to speak to her. The final phone call the lady was blaming booking.com saying they had messed up. My gut instinct is because we were only booked in for one night they have bumped us for a longer stay as it’s more cost effective or cancelling a customers booking will affect the properties rating or they may get charged if they cancel the booking. I now have to cancel the room and go back to the drawing board and find somewhere else to stay. After hours of research as a family we chose the Ferry Inn as it ticked everyone’s boxes, especially as it’s not a chain and is individually owned. We feel our holiday has been ruined before it has started.
Have always wanted to visit this pub but it’s off the beaten track (although clearly was once on a busy river crossing). Nice pub and really good quality home made pub style food. Shame that pub interior has lost many of its historic features but still a great place. Staff very welcoming
We were visiting the wife's sister's friends in Renfrew for the night and previously spent a night in the Normandy Hotel where you couldn't swing a mouse never mind a cat. The 2nd floor room had great views over the Clyde, with space, 2 bottles of water and plenty of tiny milk cartons for tea and coffee. If staying in Renfrew we would happily recommend the ferry inn.
What a lovely find this is. Used as an airport overnight stay . Quirky little place . Room was spot on, tea, coffee, biscuits, towels, shower gels . Pub food was delicious. Good music in bar too. Comfy bed. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely return .
