What a delightfully delicious surprise! The atmosphere was grand and elegant. The maitre d, and serving staff were very friendly and accommodating while remaining professional. The food! My goodness! The food was all fantastic. Several selections instead of the traditional scrambled eggs and bacon. Eggs Benedict was absolutely the best I've ever eaten. Right up there was also the tender herb smothered chicken. And the shrimp bisque with green apple and lemon grass soup. Outstanding. They have the beat creme caramel I've had the pleasure of eating and I consider myself a creme Carmel connoisseur. Also enjoyable was the light and fluffy lemon poppy seed cheesecake. Again, great service, pleasant staff, and wonderfully tasting food.
The place on Sunday morning is usually very busy, so if you are planning to arrive around 11am I would suggest you to make a reservation. The buffet has from fresh fruit to shrimps and beef. They have a table of salads and fruits, a table of desserts with different cakes, pies, mousse, etc. There is a chef that prepares eggs at the moment. The buffet also offers fresh juices and coffee and other stuff. The staff is very busy but I got good attention, there was no greeting as mentioned in another post.
I had breakfast here on multiple morning and the food was well-priced, and pretty good. Unfortunately, the staff belong at the local diner rather than a 5 star restaurant. Not even a good morning, or any sort of pleasantries... even the hostess seated us without saying a single word to us! Just grabbed menus and took us to the table.
We have only tried the brunch at the Cortlandt for seated meals, but we have had room service may times, which is prepared in the same kitchen.I find the price for the buffet style brunch to be a bit on the high side, but the quality of the food is above average.Authentic banger sausages, rather than the pork link sausage is one of my favourites, and with the English roots in the establishment, I don't get funny looks directed at me when I ask for HP Sauce...also one of my favourites.I like the breakfast and although I have not eaten lunch, had afternoon tea or evening meals there, I am sure the quality is higher than average.
