The view of course is totally amazing whether day or night. I have made an effort to try breakfast, lunch, dinner, Tapas, cafe and the New Fish and Chippery and have not been disappointed! A total thumbs up from myself and friends!
The coffee is good. Temp, flavour, coffee to milk ratio is very good. The prices are comparable with other similar restaurants. The service is slow. There were only 15 people when we visited and it took a long time to receive our meals. The smashed Avo needs work. It's a bit bland. It's just crushed avo with nothing mixed in. The Chirozo and baked egg is a surprise. It comes in a pot and it is very flavoursome and enjoyable. The view is of course magic.
We have witnessed 3 name changes for this restaruant........Sams on Suttons, Sails, Pilpel and now a new version.......The Pavilion which i believe will bring back long gone history to the establishment. Since young 'Ollie" took over the reigns a couple of weeks ago we have been to the restaurant twice. Our first trip was Steak Night , i have never seen such a large TBone steak in my entire life (i do have 61 years of experience in the steak arena.....) and one would only need a butter knife to cut through it, to say it was devine was an understatement. Then last Sunday we toddled over for the 'smoked' meat or chicken rolls with coleslaw. As we were both a bit peckish we also ordered a plate of home made chips and home made they certainly were, all different shapes and sizes which reminded me of my childhood chips at the ocean in Melbourne. The rolls were beautiful and tht smoky taste !!!!!!! We are really looking forward to the fish and chippery opening. Love ya work Ollie and staff.
We went to the Sails Restaurant for lunch on Australia Day and it was very nice. It's the only restaurant that is right on the beach, not across the road. It has since changed hands and names, it is now the Pilpel By The Sea Tapas Bar. I haven't been there yet, I'd planned on taking the family over Christmas but it was closed. Not good considering the location and all the potential bookings they missed out on
I admit I was only to this restaurant as we were given a voucher, I phoned on Tuesday who happily took my booking for Saturday night it is important to note that the phone was answered "sails"We arrived noticing the name had changed but the phone number remained the same, we thought ok we will still eat hereWhen showing the voucher the manager advised that it can no longer be used as we became Pilpel by the Sea about 6 months agoI mentioned that when I booked the name Sails was used but this did not help.It is now a restaurant that has a middle east buffet for $50 a head it is little expensive but the food is good but don't go as a couple, the serves are for minimum of 4 even if only two dine. Thank goodness for take away options
