For someone who 's never been I 'd recommend to try it. We had an early res, and were the first table of the evening, so our experience was i 'm sure different than if we were sat later on in the evening. The food was of high quality, and the space equally so. We shared the Mushroom Crepe and the Crab Tian, both of which were delicious. They were kept simple allowing the mushrooms and crab to be the center of attention in stead of being seasoned or sauced to death to cover up inferiority, of which there was none. For dinner we had the Sirloin and Rack of lamb. Though the Sirloin was overcooked in relation to how we requested it, it was still juicy and enjoyable. The Pom Frittes that came with the steak were the best seasoned I 've ever had. The lamb though a bit fatty was still good as well. Only drawback of the evening was the service. It 's definitely in need of some fine tuning. When going to a restaurant that passes itself off as elegant casual , the service needs to be on par with the food and ambiance. The servers were nice enough, and even genuine enough, but when you have two bottles of wine, and not once was a glass refilled for you, particularly when there were only two other tables at the time taking the staff 's attention as we had an early res, that 's all but unacceptable. On top of that our Captain/Server made two other egregious mistakes. One he didn 't ask how our meals were at all, with the exception of when we were finished, which is of course too late. And two, he stepped outside to sneak in a break at an outdoor table to check his phone while in our direct line of sight. Even though overall we had a pleasant experience, and may find ourselves back there, there are too many choices out there where it may not be anytime soon. When at a place such as Cafe Loret, we want to be taken care of, not just served.
Easily the finest non-Italian byob for many miles, Red Bank's own Café LORET by Chef Foy leads the pack here. New American continental with a food for vegs, pescas and carnivores, local ingredients and fine presentation. Friendly staff, visible chef. Unlike some area restos, Loret is spacious and comfortable, with an outdoor option. Don't miss it !
There were 4 in our party. Two of us had the horicots vert for appetizer. Wonderful. Two of the guys had the sirloin. Extremely generous portions and cooked to perfection. We can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Always our favorite destination in Red Bank
We were there once before and very pleased. Yesterday was a complete rip off and disappointment. My son and I ordered organic chicken for two for 56.00 dollars. What was presented to us was a Cornish hen as dry as it could possibly be, for us to share. On our last visit we ordered the same meal which was excellent. We felt like we were not in the same restaurant. Will not return to this restaurant.
