I would suggest booking a table in advance as it can fill up quickly and is popular with locals (open 4 days per week). The "Clay pot lamb biryani" is a must-try dish, as well as the "Bhuna venison" and the "John's mixed basket of Paratha". The service was outstanding and the owner/cook was welcoming to customers after their meal, a nice gesture.
Nice eating, great staff. little disappointed with the lamb tonpot biryani, it lacked taste. the rest was great.

We enjoy Indian eating from traditional curry houses through the michelin stared restaurants in london. since the order on reading, we have tried to find something until we tried clays on recommendation. it must be one of the best Indian restaurants in the country. the quality of the ingredients and the way they are treated mean that the aromes are so powerful and refined. the menu reads quite unusual, but the aromen are very familiar. Finally, the service was simply excellent from the entire team. highly recommended!
A trip to Clay's feels like a pilgrimage that everyone should undertake at least once. We were strongly recommended this restaurant by a good friend, subsequently ordered several meals via their nationwide delivery during the pandemic. With restrictions finally easing we undertook our little pilgrimage to eat there in person, it was worth the wait! The wine list is quite fascinating! Though it didn't have varieties we best enjoy with Indian food we found an Alsatian Pinot Gris that sung with Clay's food. We didn't know where to start with the dishes, thus took the recommendations from our friendly waiter. The mirchi chat and prawns to start really set the scene, but by golly, did the beef mahikhayla and chinta chiguru steal the show. Please visit, you will not regret it.
