I love the name since I live and work outside of the real Boston. Boston's has a very casual sports pub atmosphere with plenty of TVs, sports decor, and beer signs. We were seated at a booth near the bar area. The place sort of reminds me of Old Chicago, but brighter. The food menu offers good pub fare including gourmet pizzas, calzones, appetizers, salads, soups, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, kids menu, and desserts why YES, they have Boston Cream Pie!!! The bar offered plenty of beers on tap, wine, martinis, margaritas, and other cocktails. For menu and locations: [hidden link] We were very hungry and tired. Anything at this point would be very tasty for our palettes. The Italian Trio (Lasagna, Fettuccini Alfredo, Chicken Marsala) with the added a side salad was very tasty and filling. The Baby Back Ribs with fries and vegetables were good, and tangy, tender meat off the bone. For dessert, we split a slice of Boston Cream Pie (layered sponge cake with creamy sweet custard, covered with chocolate icing and slivered almonds), which we really enjoyed. The service from our waiter was attentive with several refills on Diet Pepsi were given. However the food did take a while to come out because the place was pretty busy. I was soooo dead tired from driving all day, it didn't matter to me. I can't hardly wait until Boston's opens up their first New England location in Manchester in fall 2008. Woo hoo!! But it's in CT, not NH drats! A 2 hour drive between Manchesters is not too bad.
I'm not a fan of chain restaurants. I would rather check out some hole in the wall joint. That being said, this was pretty good. The decor is so typical of the sports bar. Neon bar signs, sports paraphernalia, and tv's everywhere. We chose to sit in the lounge area which posed a bit of a challenge for my little 5'2 body. The tall tables and stools were hard to negotiate for me. I actually had to use the lower rung of the stool to hoist myself up. Yikes! Our waitress arrived quickly and though there was a bit of a mix up on our beverages, she was very attentive and quick with the food. The menu was very extensive probably about 10 pages. The thing was more like one of my scrapbooks than an actual menu. Every one tried something different...from pizza to sandwich to the soup and salad combo. All the items came out quickly and were nice and hot and very tasty. I ordered the buffalo chicken calzone and caesar salad. The salad was super tasty while the calzone was pretty good. It would have been better with a bit more filling but overall worth the money.
We ordered the caprese pizza, which was so overly salty that it felt like we were just eating salt. The honey mustard dressing tasted more like mayonnaise with a hint of pepper—definitely not edible. Our waiter seemed disinterested and acted like he would rather be anywhere else, frequently disappearing for long stretches and giving us a quick, “Hey, I’ll be right back,” as if we were uninvited relatives. On a positive note, we were seated promptly, and the hostess was very pleasant. However, we won’t be returning.
I had a really disappointing first experience at this restaurant. The bartender seemed completely inattentive, only paying attention to his friends. I received my first drink quickly, but when I asked for more time to look at the menu, I was ignored for 20 minutes. I ended up ordering pizza, but by that point, I was so frustrated that I asked them to pack it to go and requested my check. I didn't receive the check until the food actually arrived. With no one attending to me, I ended up leaving the cash I had on hand, which meant I could only leave a small tip. When I opened the pizza box in my hotel room, I found that they had given me the wrong order! Even though it was the wrong pizza, I figured bad pizza is still better than nothing, so I decided to eat it. Overall, I have no intention of coming back—there's a Burger King nearby, and I think I'd prefer that instead.
This restaurant has been my worst dining experience to date. I waited nearly an hour for my food, and when it arrived, the garlic shrimp pasta was absolutely terrible. The noodles were overcooked, and there was no sauce or seasoning whatsoever. It tasted like something a child would make. It's unfortunate that I can't give it a half-star rating.
