We were impressed by the spacious restaurant, its exotic ambiance, and the view overlooking Randwick Racecourse. Located on level 3 of Randwick Club on Alison Road, the layout of the restaurant impressed us, but what truly stood out was the food. We both agreed that it was the best Chinese cuisine we had tasted in decades. We enjoyed the honey chicken and beef with mushrooms immensely. I had previously become disenchanted with Chinese food after experiencing dishes loaded with MSG, but the flavors at Zhu Canton were pure and the preparation and cooking were flawless. The service was also top-notch, making it an ideal spot for a family celebration. Overall, a first-class dining experience.
We decided to visit this restaurant because we had a $120 voucher. The décor of the restaurant is nice, but the atmosphere was strange. The staff all had black faces and seemed idle. We ordered four dishes, three of which were their recommended dishes. The food tasted terrible, like cheap Chinese takeout, but with much higher prices. The manager also tried to overcharge us for tea, claiming it couldn't be covered by the voucher. Overall, this was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. I apologize for the harsh review.
The whole night experience drew from the associated kerfuffle with member cards and sign in non-members in sterile, crca 1970's foyer. no ambiente here, bad decor, no mood music only a flat clubby experience not the beautiful space on the. the third stage created by elevator. that was my third time here and the sheer size of the restaurant is somewhat overwhelming. I think even 1/2 full, this 250 seater would look empty. not sure if the Cantonese kitchen has the traction she had once, as most tables occupied a Friday night was 5. the top cantonese kitchen with the trips does not seem to be gelled with the demographic clientele of this club. I am sure they would rather be a 12 chicken carving and maybe not the $19.80 for a sweet and acidic pork (member price) $22.00 for non-members. due to the small number of diners there is a tendency to push diners against the south wall where the glass windows are so high, they can not see, or at the next row of tables that shine like operating rooms, neither option particularly pleasant. I doubt other tables have ever seen measures. the eating btw is sensational, service ummm .lets say unique in a friendly hit and miss away. All in all I found it just a bit klunky and not a great dinng experience.
I had not had a great Chinese meal for a long time in Sydney. Although the place is well decorated, the meal was a little ordinary and did not represent good value for money. Priced on the higher end, the meals we chose were bland....Don't think I will be back.
Rudest service if you can call it that) ever! The rude and nasty managers spoiled the mood for everyone in our party : Dont bother! Go to kingsford for cheap and cheerful Chinese food instead where they'll appreciate your business. Zhu Canton clearly don't care...about customers which is why they don't have many. Totally dead on a Saturday night which made the atmosphere very sad. Food is not even real cantonese.
