The lady on the phone said that “half of the options were Vegan” I was pleasantly surprised by this and booked. Upon arriving we were greeted by “So you’re the Vegans are you?”. There weren’t anywhere near the amount of options available as described by the staff over the phone, I would personally not dine again due to the very high price and lack of Vegan options. The 1 Vegan main they had was a really nice chickpea curry. It was a lovely experience as we had a window seat and a bottle of wine to share. However our table service was overlooked many times, I think our waitress was new, she spilled the wine a few times, but was very apologetic.
The food is good but not to many vegan options. Really expensive.
At first I thought this restaurant buffet was better than its counterpart in Rotorua because vegan items were actually labelled. However, it was all downhill from there. I confirmed that the soup, bread and even the broccoli were not vegan! While there were a few vegan salads, they were not exciting, and most were grainy. There were a couple of vegan mains and I chose the massaman curry. This was mediocre to the point of almost being inedible, with undercooked potato. Whereas at the Rotorua Skyline (which I also thought was generally bad) I had been given chocolate cake and berry sorbet for dessert, here the only vegan option I could see was a fruit salad, and I confirmed with the chef that there was nothing else (despite a vast array of non-vegan desserts). Places like this should not pretend (as they did when I called to enquire) that vegans will be well taken care of here. I left disappointed and annoyed at the (not negligible) amount of money I had spent.
I went here for lunch with my non vegan husband and the food was amazing. They had a fair few vegan options. I had tofu vegetable curry, rice, crunchy roast potatoes, steamed veg and they also had other bread and sauces however I did not try these as I am also gluten free. Tags beside the food state vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, nut free etc. So tbat was very helpful. We purchased our entry in a pack for the day at the front counter. Only downside was no naughty vegan dessert, only fruit salad. But would definitely return again!
Amazing experience, there was vegan lasagna, chickpea curry, jackfruit stew sushi all were sensational. Four stars because there was no vegan dessert aside from the usual fruit salad. On the whole super vegan friendly a great day out.
