The fish and chips were delicious. The restaurant was clean and had a friendly atmosphere.

Enjoyed a quick and tasty lunch here. Staff were friendly. Quite a lot of seating upstairs as well.

This place is fantastic. Smart easy atmosphere, simple well appointed menu, and the tastes are just what you'd expect from the sign out front smoked meats and fish n chips served over newspaper (not real newspaper that leaves ink on your food, don't worry). I had the fish and Caesar salad. The fish was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, juicy and falling apart on the inside. The house made tartar sauce was divine. The salad was tart and creamy. I'd have preferred anchovies to be included, but realize that's a fading tradition. It was inexpensive. It was precisely what I was hoping for a simple tasty authentic meal in an engaging atmosphere, a welcome night off from the tourist hoopla in the area. I have two young boys, if they were with us on this trip, we'd take them for sure.

Le Comptoir is the perfect place to start your visit to Quebec. The haddock was seasoned perfectly and filled with high-quality, flaky white fish. Even though we just finished eating, my mouth is watering for more. The poutine was decent, but the fries could have been improved. You'll find yourself in a happy place as you enjoy the crunchy and delicious coleslaw. Our server, Louis Philippe, was charming, quirky, and incredibly friendly, and he helped us understand the menu. I give the service 5 stars, and we might return for more fish before we leave.

This restaurant is a delicious spot for Mediterranean cuisine. The service is outstanding, the menu is diverse, and the ambiance is cozy, especially on a chilly night. For a reasonable price, you can upgrade any dish to a table d'hôte and enjoy complimentary tea and dessert.
