La comida y la atención son excelentes, y los platos son generosos. Si pides pescado frito, todos los acompañamientos están incluidos en el mismo precio, a diferencia de otros restaurantes que los cobran por separado.
We visited Progreso for a week in mid-February, 2016. We tried Tommy's Restaurant & Bar for dinner our first night in Progreso and found the food to be quite good, the prices reasonable, and the service from our waiter, David, to be second to none! The atmosphere in this place leaves a bit to be desired, but that made little difference to us. During the week, we spent many afternoons at one of Tommy's beach tables enjoying excellent margaritas, chips and salsa with guacamole, and even a few tequila shots! Here's a little information about David, since he was the main reason we continued to patronize this establishment. Our first night there, the subject of breakfast came up while talking with him. He asked what we liked for breakfast and we told him. He told us to make sure and stop in there the following day for our morning meal, so we did. We ordered coffee, chilaquiles, toast with butter and jam, and ham. David left the table and in a few minutes reappeared through the front door of the restaurant with all the ingredients to make our morning meal. He had walked to a nearby market and purchased the items, so we could eat what we wanted for breakfast. After a little investigation, we learned that this place doesn't even serve breakfast meals. David just wanted to make sure we were happy and had what we desired. Granted, the coffee was instant (not our normal quality of morning coffee, but he made the effort!) and the ham was actually thin sliced lunch meat. The point of all this is that David made sure we were treated with the best service he could provide, and that's what makes Mexico......Mexico!!!! Service like this doesn't exist at home in our experience. David also fetched us a table from the restaurant's excess inventory one afternoon so we could be sure and sit in the sun, like we wanted, when no other tables were available for Tommy's patrons. If you visit the beach malecon in Progreso, be sure to stop and see David at Tommy's, and tell him his friends Brian & Connie sent you!
A friend and I decided to try Tommy's restaurant on the malecon but I have never been treated so horribly by waitstaff in my life. As you can see, the area was empty except for 1 other table and the waiter came up to us and took away a table (that I was eating and drinking at - literally leaving me sitting on the beach holding my beer in a plastic chair) for a "big family" that was coming. I counted and there were 9 other tables he could have taken away. My friend joked that he wouldn't get a tip and the waiter started arguing with us, very inappropriately. He came back several times and interrupted our conversation very rudely to argue with us. When I spoke to another waiter, I complained, calmly, about his coworker. He told me that he was the guy in charge of the waitstaff! I can't believe it. I now know why this place was empty and every other palapa was full. I cannot believe how ignorant and rudely we were treated and how he repeatedly came back and interrupted us to yell at us. I won't recommend this place to anyone.
We passed this place and the guy who was sitting in front tried to get us in. We were not interested and that's when he started calling me and my family bad names.
