We would stop in at Bednesti to get a bite to eat or to use the washroom, which has been at least 6-8 times a year for 20 years, it's been open maybe 10 times for no longer than 3 months maximum each time it was. But there are always new beautiful log building that are left boarded up to go to waste. So if your heading to or from somewhere past this place and we're expecting to get something to eat don't count on it to be open!Cause it is not. No bathroom or picnic tables for the public. But there is a parking lot, with a pay phone. If your heading West, just keep driving! About 7-10 minutes to the nice public Rest Area on the left. It has bathrooms, picnic tables and a parking lot to take a quick nap if you need. And right across the hi-way at Brookside you can get yummy take away food, homemade pie, ice cream, fuel and I think even propane for those old school RV's and liquor:)!
I drove by here a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure how long the restaurant has been closed (apparently it's been open on and off over the years.) The last time I ate here was all the way back in 2001 with the grandparents. We used to eat here all the time when driving towards the Vancouver area. The food certainly wasn't anything special, but it wasn't bad, either.I understand the restaurant market is turbulent at the best of times, but it truly is a shame the restaurant is no longer open as it offered a nice alternative to your standard fare.
The restaurant was closed. We stayed in the campground, an ugly gravel pit near a lake. There were several trailers that appeared to be permanent. The restrooms had rusty shower stalls. they were horrid. rusty, cold, and primitive, internal walls were crumbling. The parking spot we were assigned was under a wasp infested tree (we moved.) This was the most expensive place we stayed on our drive up the Alcan. and the absolute worst.
Since this resort re-opened, we have been regulars. The food is expertly prepared by a Red Seal Chef and his food is sooo good! We recommend the schnitzels but everything on the menu that we have tried is good. The on-site baking now has us both addicted to Chef Brian's Nanaimo Bars - unbelievable! Unfortunately they seem to have now done away with the senior's menu and in its place offer a "reduced portion" for $4 off the regular price. The new prices are still fair. For the off-season, the restaurant is only open 3 days/week, Friday, Saturday
It's 2:33am and have just finished a McDonald's meal in my hotel room thanks to Denny's (this location).
