We were told that a party of seven cannot book a reservation because they don’t book reservations for less than eight people. We were recommended to arrive early and that it gets busy typically at 5:30pm. As suggested, we decided to show up at 5:00pm to avoid the rush. When we arrived, we were told that they didn’t have a table big enough for us available and that we would have to be split up. As a family of five with three girls aged 12, 10 and 7 and two grandparents, we wanted to stay together. To eat together as a family, we were told we could wait at the bar or come back later. We asked when and were told that they couldn’t tell us. We were recommended to come back at 5:45 to try again. I let the woman we were dealing with know that we tried to make a reservation earlier (which would have avoided the situation) and she said sternly “we don’t take reservations for less than eight people”. I let her know that I’d include that in my online reviews. This individual showed no empathy at this moment and immediately turned her back to us and walked away. We came back at 5:40 and there were no tables available. This time, we decided to wait at the bar. We waited a full hour to be seated; families with young children know that this is far from an optimal situation. The eight people rule for reservations seems arbitrary to me and the fact that they wouldn’t accommodate our family of seven with a reservation was extremely rigid; a little bit of flexibility could have avoided our dissatisfaction regarding the reservation process and prevented the long wait for our family. This brings me to the second part of this review. Our waitress was really nice and I believe she tried really hard, but the restaurant was clearly not staffed adequately for the amount of people that were eating (it was overcrowded and very noisy). When we were finished, it was 8:36. We had spent two hours and fifty six minutes since arriving the second time. In between, we waited about a half hour for mussels, another half hour for a water jug refresh, and so on. In conclusion, the food itself was fantastic, but I still managed to leave with a foul taste in my mouth. Not only did this overall experience disappoint me enough to write this review, but it also directly affected your bottom line; we didn’t buy any drinks and I downgraded my intended meal by around twenty dollars (the ham was really good, though lol). My rating is reflective of a five for food and a one for overall experience (rounded down for obvious reasons). If these management/policy decisions are not changed so that people can reasonably make a reservation and more staffing is hired, I would recommend that if you are a party of six or seven, reserve for eight and say that one or two didn’t show up. You’ll be much more satisfied with your experience. … – show
Food was fantastic, but was overcrowded and very noisy. More staff need to be hired; took around three hours. Head waitress was rude. Extremely rigid regarding no reservations for less than eight.
The best lobster dinner. All you can eat everything else. I loved the seafood chowder and the cherry pie!
Made a reservation for 7 and waited about 30 minutes for a table. You pre-pay for your food. Unlimited mussels was a great deal. Request the basement if you can for the air conditioning.
All-you-can eat appetizers and desserts are on offer at this island institution along with, of course, fresh saltwater boiled lobster! The You Gotta Eat Here book says this is a must-do when in PEI!
