Guests can enjoy their meals indoors with large picture windows or on the patio outside. Live entertainment is offered on Friday and Saturday evenings, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. I've also heard that they have cozy little cabins available for rent, which are conveniently located alongside the river.
This charming knotty pine restaurant is nestled beside the Cub River and a stunning mountain cliff. You can enjoy your meal on the patio or by the picturesque windows. On Friday and Saturday nights, you can savor dinner while listening to live music, and there's even space to dance if you're in the mood!
Restaurant Review: The ownership is rude and unwelcoming to guests. The cabins haven't been updated since the 1970s and are not very clean. Be prepared to pay in cash, as the owners are outdated and do not accept card payments; I had to drive into Preston to find an ATM. Parking for your vehicles is inadequate, and the cabins are small, featuring only a single bed. Additionally, there is no fence or barrier between the cabins and the river, which poses a safety risk for children. There are much better accommodations available just minutes away.
The food was incredibly delicious! The scones were outstanding! The service was excellent, and the surroundings were lovely! I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more frequently! Just a heads up: payment is only accepted in cash or by check.
Make sure to bring cash or a check! We learned this the hard way, but luckily my mother-in-law had her checkbook on hand. The entrance of the restaurant isn’t clearly marked, so I ended up wandering around to the back before finding the way in. As for the food, it was just okay. The trout, chicken, and potatoes were rather basic, and the prawns seemed to be cooked from frozen, resulting in a chewy texture. On a positive note, the soup was enjoyable, even if it tasted a bit like gravy. The scones and onion rings, although needing a bit of salt, were delightful and made from scratch. However, the real charm of the place lies in its atmosphere and history. The decor features old-fashioned, vintage crockery that invokes fond memories of my grandparents' home. The fish was served on a quaint iron plate, adding to the nostalgic vibe. The surrounding canyon, trees, and rushing river create a soothing and mesmerizing backdrop, while a flowering bush on the back deck filled the air with a lovely fragrance. The music played was a pleasant surprise, much like the restaurant itself. The drive to get there felt like a step back in time, a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life where cell service and internet are mere afterthoughts in this hidden gem. This is a family-owned establishment, and it was a joy to see the original owner's daughter assisting our waiter, her son, with our dinner service. James, our server, was incredibly friendly and made our visit feel like we were dining at a friend's home. Getting to know him was worth the trip alone.
