Great place, just how pubs used to be (and still should be) with no gimmicks just a good honest pub with friendly locals and a very knowledgeable landlady who knows her cars! Will definitely call in again when passing. Didn't eat here but menu looked traditional pub grub
This was a fantastic place to stay. I had an evening meal, 3 pints, a bed for the night in a clean room and a full breakfast and got change from £40.00 !! I watched in awe as Pauline skilfully tended the bar and cooked 4 evening meals on her own at the age of 81.!! Pauline herself is delightful: warm, welcoming and down to earth. I had to get up early and so she got up just to make my breakfast. At the end of my stay, I tried to force a tip on her but she would have none of it. My advice is take up the opportunity of visiting. Places like this are rare.
My friend booked this 'hotel ' based on the seemingly positive reviews from other victims. Honestly, I do not know where to start. From the outside, you get a taste of what is to come. The exterior has green algae all over the white brick work. The wooden window frames are visably rotting and the glass is starting to drop out. We entered the hotel and were great es with a message saying our rooms were upstairs and that the manager would be there from 19.00 we arrived at 17.30. There was absolutely no one in the hotel and the place had a faint damp smell. We proceeded up the creaking stairs to the first floor. The carpet looked like it was 30 to 40 years old. We opened the door to the first room which had the window with the rotten frame we saw outside. The room had 1 double bed and 2 singles. Only 2 of the beds had a head board and of those thag had headboards, they were clearly very old and deteriorating. As for the bedding, it looked and felt as if it had been washed 1000 times. It was faded, stained and felt dirty. Towels were laid on the bed. Again, these looked and felt like they had been washed too many times to count. They were frayed and town at the ends. Honestly, if I hadn 't experienced the 'hotel ' for myself, I would have thought it was a joke. How someone thinks this is acceptable, I do not know. I myself did not stay at the property as the conditionn was below what I could tolerate. My other friends did stay and were unable to sleep. In the morning, breakfast was meant to be served at 07.00. No one appeared until 08.30 when they had to leave. If I could help you visualise the hotel, it would be for you to think of the 1960s film, Psycho. I was almost expecting the mother and son to be in one of the rooms next door If you are in any doubt as to whether I recommend this 'hotel ', I most certainly do not! Avoid! This place should have been closed down a long time ago!
I was walking Glyndwr's way on my own and last minute booked a room. Landlady was lovely and a real character. Had a huge bedroom and really enjoyed the local company in the bar during the evening. Ate a lovely evening meal and breakfast. Great value for money and no frills-which is fine by me. The lovely nights sleep and the lovely breakfast set me up nicely for my days walking to Lake Vyrnwy. This place is awful. By quite some distance the worst place I have ever stayed in my entire life. Myself and 3 friends stayed here for the second night of a huge charity bike ride and whilst we weren’t expecting 5* luxury, we were expecting a habitable place. It is only £25 per night for a room, including (allegedly) breakfast so again, we weren’t expecting luxury but a bit of cleaning here and there wouldn’t go a miss. Firstly, the bathrooms are shared. Not great but when you find them dirty, it’s a big put off. Dried poo around the toilet rim in 2 of the bathrooms, a blocked shower and disgusting, mouldy and stagnant smells throughout. The carpets were vile and thankfully because I took my flip flops from hone for some reason, my feet luckily didn’t touch the floor at any point. The window frames are covered in mould. The curtains don’t shut any light out whatsoever. The beds are unbearably uncomfortable and not clean; I decided to sleep on top of the covers due to the amount of hair and other unknown objects inside the covers, and also put a t-shirt over the pillow to lay on in fear of what might have been before from looking at the pillows! We managed to look at all the rooms because we were the only people staying unsurprisingly. They were all awful, if not worse. My personal favourite was the room where the pull chord for the room light would be tickling you in the face all night if you were in bed! Other rooms included unplastered or decorated walls, horrific carpets, more mould and even worse looking bedding. Finally, we agreed breakfast at 7:00. We attempted to go and get breakfast at 7:00, 7:15, 7:30, 7:45 and 8:00 only to find everything locked up and the lights off. We gave up at that point and decided to get ready and back on our bikes to find somewhere else. At 8:30 as we were cycling off, the owner was stood at the window staring at us in a very weird, horror movie way! We couldn’t get out of there quick enough! Hungry, shattered due to no sleep and generally deflated after such a god awful experience. They clearly don’t care about the trip advisor reviews so anyone who’s reading this take it for what it is and DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!! Also, they only have a food hygiene rating of 3 which is inexcusable. Avoid at all costs.
