The Station - PORTOLA

So glad to have a real cafe in Portola! Beautiful part of the country but Portola is known for poor services with absolutely nowhere to eat breakfast. Staff was very friendly and food was great. Big piece of ham and crispy hash browns. Steak and eggs is awesome!

Horrendously slow service. Party of three, we got there around 11:30 and didn't get served until almost 1:30. They apologized at first but yet did not appear to rush at all for us, and served every single person in and outside of the restaurant before us. I had to literally stand next to the counter and tell them I was waiting for the food and complain for them to pick up the plates sitting right there and bring them out.

The breakfast skillet for $10 was delicious, and the service was excellent.

The food was mediocre. I paid $30 for a half order of French toast, two eggs, two sausage patties, coffee, and milk. Is that really the price?

The prices have doubled, and the service was abysmal. When the waitress placed my hamburger in front of me, all four of us stared at it in disbelief; it was significantly smaller than the bun. My husband ordered a French dip, but the meat was tough and the au jus lacked any flavor. After finishing our meals, we had to request drink refills. The waitress only refilled my husband's drink while the rest of us had to ask for water. When the bill came, we were surprised to see a "checkout fee" added without any explanation. I've never encountered a checkout fee before, and usually, any extra charges are clearly explained. We also didn't receive a breakdown of the bill. The total came to just over $66.00 for lunch for four, which feels excessive, especially in this small town where locals are struggling to make ends meet. We won’t be returning, and I highly discourage others from going. It’s truly sad to see such a once-great restaurant decline under new management.
