J. Michael's Philly Deli - Porters Neck

I was not pleased with my visit to J Michael’s, I had the meatball sub, the meatballs were dry and there very very little marinara sauce, had to ask for more. Totally smothered with mozzarella cheese, way too much. The French onion soup was bland, the only thing that was ok was the French fries. First and last time I Will be visiting this place…….and this place was recommended to me!!!!!!!! Never again!

Went in on a Mon afternoon, about 2:30. They were not busy, only 3 table occupied; two of them had already been served. Had to wait several minutes before a server came to take our drink order. She came back after about 5 minutes to take our food order but didn 't bring our drinks. (The dining room was not busy. Wife and I each ordered a half sandwich. Waitress asked if that was all, we said yes, that is all. She asked what about sides? What sides? Waitress said it comes with sides. OK, fries and onion rings. She put our order in, while this was going on, a table of 3 came in, never got waited on, so they left. And we waited for our food. And waited. And waited. I could see the kitchen order window, and our order came up, and sat on the wait station shelf for 15 MINUTES! Waitress was completely unaware that she had an order up. When it finally came to our table, the oven-toasted sandwiches and sides were cold. We had to get our own to-go containers, and the server never did bring the check. At the register to pay, they looked it up and tried to charge us for combo meals, even though we specifically ordered 1/2 sandwich. We told them at the register that the server specifically told us sides came with and we never ever mentioned the word combo. We didn 't even get drinks. The manager straightened it out and we paid only for the sandwiches we ordered; the woman at the register said why dont you take into account the girl was new? Hey, we didn 't know that and not our fault if she isn 't properly trained before taking orders. Can 't comment on the quality of food because it was cold when we got it. We wasted over an hour in there for a small sammy.

It took a long time to get our food even though there weren't a lot of people in there. My food was cold. We had to send something back because it wasn't right. Somehow, one item didn't make it to the kitchen screen, so it arrived late. Overall, it was a bad experience!

The restaurant is not up to the same quality I remember from visiting there in the past years. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich which had plenty of meat but no visible cheese. After biting into the sandwich there was a hint of cheese but the drippings appeared watery at the ends of the sandwich.In the past they would serve the Philly cheesesteak with a plethora of cheese.The restaurant now apparently allows pets inside the dining areas. Barking dog during lunch was annoying. Didn’t meet my expectations of previous experiences at this restaurant.

I use to come here years ago when I lived in Wilmington and I talk about how good the cheese steaks all the time. Well I finally made it back to Wilmington and this is the first place we stopped. I must say I was not disappointed in the cheese steak. It was amazing! Plenty of steak and cheese.
