Unfortunately, the large part of the food is fried and oily. Not the healthiest place I was at, but it seems to be the only fully vegan option in port louis.
This is a Chinese caffe in port louis, as far as I know, it is the only vegan caffe in mauritius. it's a great little place, I couldn't read the menu and the employees didn't speak English, so I was lucky that a girl helped me to order. from what I could do, they get either a rice or nudel stir fry with the possibility to dump with suppe or chutney. I got the rice dish and it was tasty, they had fake meats placed and some pineapple and some nice crispy pieces that I didn't know what they were! again from what I could gather from the mozen who helped me was that the place was vegan, although they had me some sweetness (not made by them) at the end that had milk in it, but I thought it was not in it. the personal was beautiful and gave me a dessert to take away at the end free what was beautiful. this is a basic caffe with a limited menu, so they do not expect all to be swedish, but it is fantastic to have this place on the island, as there are not many veggie places and eating was delicious! this place can be found with google maps.
I stumbled randomly to the place after I had walked from the top of le pouce (the local mountain) over the forest path and was thrilled that I had found a place that no one else had. I wasn't right at that front, but it was an invaluable discovery. it was very busy when I arrived, so I had to wait for about ten minutes to be served. Once I was, I was relying on the food of another customer, as it was the first place I found in mauritius, who no one speaks a single word English (the menu is, but I wanted exactly what someone else had was a tailor-made dish). eating was basic Chinese influenced, but it's all vegan (handy, if communication is a challenge it's also stupid cheap among usd4 for what I had. I'd like to go back.
Situated in a small lane off St Denis Rue, the cafe is so inconspicuous that even the cab driver couldn't locate it at first even after calling the cafe. So it's wise to get a cab driver to bring you there. But it was worth the search. Not knowing what to expect, we decided to order something small ie a one person portion of soup with a mixture of veg siew mai (steamed dumplings),stuffed tofu and veg balls and some tomato ketchup on top. Wow! We were hooked! The soup was flavorful and the ingredients were delicious! We have not eaten such yummy veg food in Singapore yet. The combination was fantastic! The prices were very cheap and value for money. So we decided to order more of siew mai, tofu, veg balls, fried rolls and fried mee as takeaways for our dinner that night back at the hotel. And save on an expensive dinner at the hotel. The fried rolls were crispy and packed with veggies but sinful which applied to all fried foods : Fried mee was packed to the max in a styrofoam box so you can imagine how big the portion is. Lots of wok hei flavor inside, if you enjoy chinese stir-frying.
A great option for vegan eating in port louis. large portions for very little money. most Asian cuisine. it is a short walk from the cathedrale, fucked in a small road with a narrow filial; the google maps directions are accurate.
