The Portsider - Port Chalmers

This fantastic restaurant is located in one of the most beautiful spots in New Zealand, near Dunedin. We used to visit every two months when our ship was docked at Port Chalmers. The food is delicious and fresh, and I highly recommend trying the various beers they offer. The ambiance is lovely, and the weather is often great, making for a wonderful dining experience.

I absolutely loved it! The food was fantastic; I started with the bitterballen, which were incredibly tasty and full of flavor. For my main course, I had the sole fillet, and it was cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the duck, which looked amazing as well. The prices were very reasonable, especially when compared to a pub meal I had later in the week that was way more expensive and not nearly as good. They offered not only craft beers but also a lovely selection of wines, which isn't always the case at craft beer places. The staff were super friendly and efficient, making the whole experience truly enjoyable. I wish I lived nearby so I could visit all the time!

The Portsider is truly a unique spot. Since it's somewhat of a local favorite for us, you may view this as a biased review, but keep in mind that we have high standards and can be quite particular. The selection of craft beers on tap is impressive, and the staff is always well-informed, providing insightful answers to any questions and even letting you sample new options. The food consistently exceeds expectations, especially the seafood, which showcases the finest offerings from the region. If you sit at the bar with the regulars, they'll gladly assist you in finding something delicious—it's really not a challenge!

Regularly attend Wednesday steak night and every meal has been simply superb.Great beer selection and friendly. Efficient staff.Also great venue for lunch with varied, interesting menu.

Great atmosphere (warm cosy wood fire) and the food there is superb. Wednesday night was 'Steak Night ' and it was 'melt in your mouth ' steak. Very good selection of boutique beers. Have been a couple of times and the food has been consistently good and friendly staff. My new regular stop-off when traveling from Chch to Dunedin (via Port Chalmers).
