We drove up there with Flo a native of Bratto who speaks with a wonderful London accent having lived there for many years. She was keen for us to try out the local mountain food and we arrived with high expectations. We were not disappointed. The food was wonderful and despite the local funghi being out iof season we were treated to porcini lightly preserved in oil. Superb. This was followed by their famous wild boar slowly braised in herbs, red wine and juniper berries. The polenta helped soak up the wonderful sauce. The owner Renato was justifiably proud of the gastronomic delights he served. It is worth finding this little restaurant and a treat awaits !
We ate in this restaurant after meeting with Renato's niece Annamaria. She had been helping us with tracing a family dwelling and family history. We found the meal very good and very resonable price wise. My partner enjoyed the Wild Boar as did my Aunt, but being a non meat eater I passed on that. The pasta we had was the best by far that we ate in the week we stayed in the area. Although there were only 2 tables including us on the night, the locals came in and played cards and it was a very enjoyable evening. I wish could have tried more of the local vino but I had to drive.
A hidden gem outside Pontremoli, in northern Tuscany. Delicious tasty food in a superb setting. We all just loved it.
We visited Trattoria da Renato during a recent holiday to Pontremoli last week. This restaurant was one of the first we visited during our stay. We booked in advance as we knew that it is very popular. It was however particularly quiet on the evening of our visit and lacked a little atmosphere. The host was informative and the food was generous in portion, really tasty and packed with flavour. The (red) wine chosen appeared to be home made but this added to the rustic feel of the location and food on offer. The fried mushrooms we tried were simply excellent and I would definitely recommend their choice if offered. Overall the experience of Renato was well worth it and we would certainly recommend you give it a go. Value for money was terrific.
