Shanghai Dumpling House - Pleasanton

Replace a Pho place. Large interior with plenty of seating. Menu has many traditional American Chinese dishes but also many Shanghai specialities. Prices are good, quantities are large and quality is quite good. Still says Soft Launch on the shield, but opened for weeks.

It was pretty slow on Saturday night. The service was decent and the food was pretty good. The green onion pancakes were on the thin side, not much to chew. The only thing that made me angry was that they were accused of tea without telling me. We went in and the first thing they asked before us was if we wanted tea or water. Since Shanghainese food tends to be on the fat side, we chose tea. I just want to know before I get the bill.

We had dinner here Sunday evening during his gentle opening. You're still working on the knicks, so I'm just gonna stick to the good stuff. Shanghai Dumpling House feels like an authentic Chinese restaurant in Shanghai. The dumplings were quite what you expected me to eat a few dozen at a session, but the star of the show was so far the cold sesame noodles that were more like cold chilinudels. I didn't have the pan roasted pig beans, but they looked amazing, so next time they have to try. Everything else was pretty good. I look forward to coming back to try more about the menu.

My husband and I had a soup, a drain and a main course. All were delicious. We could taste the vinegar in the hot acid and sweet acidic dishes. The hot mad was nice hot to believe the menu when it marks a dish as sharp. The bowl of soup we shared was bigger than we expected more like soup for 6 8. The service was good during the early lunch hour of our visit. My husband is very susceptible to MSG reactions to Chinese food, but has no problem with the food we ordered.

Very good food especially for the price. Extremely busy 20 minutes after opening. A wide variety of dishes. In the midst of soft opening so service was a bit off (dishes arriving out of order) but still prompt service. The owner replied but this was meant as a compliment as it is a soft opening and though the dishes were out of order it was still very prompt and most arrived within 5-10 minutes.
