The staff were incredibly helpful and kind and we’d really recommend the hotel. The walk to the beach isn’t great and you have to navigate quite a busy road but the beach is huge and has a raw beauty. It’s a good 30 minute walk into Samara town along the beach.
Do not waste your money in this hotel. This hotel is far from the town. Traffic noise in the early morning is so loud and breakfast is very limited. Omelette egg cooked too old and greasy. Food is not available in dinner menu. Bathroom’s toilet paper is rough . Espresso machine and fridge are broken in the room. Bugs and bats are everywhere.
My partner and I stayed here with our kids (4 and 1) and had a wonderful time. Staff was fantastic, the included breakfast eggs, rice&beans and fresh fruit was delicious. It's so close to Playa Carillo and far enough from Samara to be a lot quieter, but an easy zip to town if anything is needed. Would definitely come back.
This is a lovely little place with a wonderful staff. The rooms are clean and modern, and the hotel has nice areas to hang out in. The restaurant serves a delicious breakfast as part of the room costs. True story, we arrived in Samara late at night and discovered that our VRBO had been double booked and we no longer had a house to stay at. I found Montelaguna online and called, they speak English (which is a plus since my high school Spanish is very poor) and they accommodated us with kindness. We were in our rooms in no time, and we were able to book a couple of nights while we found a new house. This turned out to be the perfect landing spot for the first nights in Guanacaste. Carrillo beach is a short walk away, and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area with a long line of palm trees to hang your hammock! And there is a restaurant and bar in the hotel, so no need to run around if you just want to get acclimated.
Little hotel with rooms that are ok. It‘s quite far from Samara town. You do get to the beach fast, but there is no infrastructure close by. To reach an area with sunbeds and restaurants, it‘s about 2.5 km to walk. To go to town you have to drive or take a taxi, as it is too far to walk on the road in the dark. The breakfast was not good. The food in the evening is ok, but way to expensive for what it is! The staff was very friendly though and always available.
