I visited La Madeleine for the first time in several years. Used to go to the one in downtown Dallas to get their Cesar salad with chicken. Tried that again and it seems like the recipe has changed. They used to have the chicken in little foil containers that would be put on the salad when you ordered it (was always nice and warm), but this trip it seemed like the chicken was different and pre-made and chilled. The Cesar dressing also tasted a bit bland this visit. Maybe I just had an off meal and will try it again. Historically it has been the best Cesar around!
Came here on a Saturday evening and ordered the Crepe La Madeline, and was shocked on the tiny Crepe piece, which was $11 (photo attached for reference. Plate on the upper left corner is the entire crepe order, untouched. Other items are a separate order). We asked the manager if this was the correct portion size, as it might have been a simple mistake with the order, but he confirmed that the portion size was correct. It's hard to believe that La Madeleine can justify charging $11 for such a small drop of food. Hopefully this was only an isolated incident in a particular place, but if they really skip to that extent, then it might be wiser for customers to take their business elsewhere. Very disappointed.
The restaurant is located in a beautiful, dark French motif. Foods are serious French origin, and it is a good concept. I've been going to them for 20 years. I may not come back. La Madeleine shows its product prices in its menus; they are what I expect to pay a dollar for every dollar of cost. After I bought the food and paid for it, I came to the realization that the bakery had added a supplement of 15% of the purchase to the bill. I had paid the bill happy without looking for such a breach of trust. In other words, the actual price of food was 115% of what was specified in the menu. The ticket adds the supplement like a tax; the printed declaration justifies the hidden fee as required in the current market. Probably the price bait and switch goes unnoticed because the customer suspects that La Madeleine is trustworthy. Be careful! Check your ticket! Too bad, La Madeleine!
Great food as usual. I'll come back to this place. The atmosphere is very nic and welcoming.
