While the pernil, rellenos de papa, sweet plantains, and desserts were good (though could have been hotter), the prices were exorbitant. $18 for just Rice Beans and $40 for a sampler that ended up being almost $50 with taxes and fees (and a mandatory 15% gratuity added on top) felt like a rip-off. The food seemed premade and kept warm, lacking freshness. We were hoping to try Alcapurias without yucca, but were disappointed. The free soup offered was lukewarm and overly cilantro-heavy. Authentic Puerto Rican cuisine requires time and effort to prepare properly, and cutting corners for profit is noticeable. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.
I tried their arroz con gandules, maduros, alcapurria, and chicken empanada at a recent farm festival They were the only Latin tent and I take any opportunity to eat my favorite alcapurrias, but unfortunately I was greatly disappointed. I paid $28 for everything and the only thing I enjoyed was the maduros. The rice was cooked with way too much water so it was mushy and to make matters worse, some grains were still undercooked. The alcapurrias were also very underwhelming. I’m Puerto Rican and grew up eating alcapurrias, so I’ve had enough to know what good tastes like and these were not it. I regret that I bought them and the rice. I’m bringing the empanada home for my son and hoping that’s at least good enough for him to enjoy.I’m surprised to see how well they’re rated Maybe the food is better on site. Regardless, I’ll be skipping this tent next time.
Today was our first time visiting this restaurant and we absolutely loved it. The owner was incredibly welcoming and made us feel like family. He also shared the story behind his company, which was really interesting. The food was all delicious, but my favorite was the guava and cheese empanadas. The atmosphere was cozy and reminded me of my grandma's house. Everything was clean and smelled wonderful. We will definitely be returning in the future!
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend and it was my first time trying Mofongo. Despite being a little dry, it was delicious! Everything I tried here was good. I ordered Mofongo with Shrimp and a Beef and Cheese empanada. The service was excellent and they also gave out plantain chips they were testing to every table. It was a fantastic experience and I will definitely return for more.
Business was like going to a Taco Bell for authentic Mexican food. Nothing authentic about the Puerto Rican food there. Americanized instead of authentic. Food was less than lukewarm.Way Overpriced!!! The only thing that was good was the 3 leches cake.Cashier was extremely rude. Wasn't done eating inside the restaurant and he was rushing us out to accommodate other customers on the waiting list.Overall, poor quality food and bad service. Food in Lawrence is much better and authentic. Wouldn't recommend anyone to this restaurant.
