It's not overly creamy, has the perfect tang, and is flavorful without being too overpowering. The portion is generous. The fries are decent, though they would have likely been crispier if I had eaten them at the restaurant, so I’ll give them a pass on that. The fish is cod, which I appreciated. The soft white bread complemented the sandwich nicely without being soggy. There’s a good amount of cheese, but it lacks flavor. I added some salt and Old Bay spices from home to the fish and fries, which really enhanced the taste. Overall, it’s a solid sandwich spot with reasonable prices for a quick bite and a quintessential Pittsburgh experience, although it does have its drawbacks. I would suggest improving the user interface of the Primanti's app. Currently, you can’t combine past rewards (for instance, if you have a $5 reward for downloading the app and $10 in points, you can’t combine them for $15 off the total—you're only allowed to apply one or the other). In my previous review, I mentioned that Primanti's is a classic Pittsburgh establishment. I was surprised that I hadn’t visited until now, despite being in the city for some time. I ordered a simple meal: a personal-sized pepperoni and banana pepper pizza, cheese fries, and unsweetened iced tea. The service was slow during my visit. The pizza was fairly standard—good size, slightly crispy, but also a bit doughy. The cheese was okay, and the sauce was a tad sweet. The crust was nice. In terms of price to portion, it was average and had a reasonable amount of toppings. However, nothing about it stood out, so I’d rate it 3 out of 5 stars. The cheese fries were disappointing. Most were soggy, and they lacked flavor; some salt or pepper could have made a big difference. The cheese sauce didn’t add anything worthwhile—it tasted like cheese whiz. Lastly, I noticed the iced tea is priced at $3! I get that prices are rising due to inflation, but that cost seems excessive for the portion size. Overall, while I think Primanti's might offer good sandwiches (which I haven’t tried yet), this experience was quite underwhelming and makes me question whether it truly deserves to be labeled a Pittsburgh staple. 3 out of 5 stars.
Previously, they had this amazing jalapeño pretzel salad that was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Now, it feels bland and just like any other healthy dish.
We decided to check out a historic spot in Pittsburgh. Overall, the food is decent bar fare, though not remarkable. The interesting aspect is the way they serve the protein on a sandwich along with fries and coleslaw. However, like many oversized American sandwiches, it's tough to take a full bite. The waitress informed us that we could request any item to be served on the side when we ordered. Next time, I think I’ll get the fries on the side to enjoy them separately. The coleslaw, surprisingly, complemented the meal, much like adding lettuce. We tried the fish sandwich and the black bean sandwich, which had excellent patty flavor! And, of course, there was a big pickle on the side. Don’t expect anything fancy here; our starter came with a plastic fork, and the food is served on paper plates and tin trays with plastic cups. We did notice that salads were presented on actual dishes with silverware. This is definitely a casual spot for quick bar food. The food is good and reasonably priced. By the way, the pizza looked appealing, but we had to go for a classic sandwich being our first visit and as tourists!
Came back today to pick up their popular colossal fish sandwich. I'd describe the food as good, but not great. It's convenient and inexpensive so it's a good spot to grab some food if you're in the area. The customer service from the company is great. I'm still not the biggest fan of the food, though, but I'd definitely eat it if given the option. The fish sandwich is quite large when you factor the fries and coleslaw into it. I really enjoyed this slaw; probably the best I've had from a chain restaurant. It's not overly creamy, has the right amount of tang, and is all around flavorful without being overpowering. The portion is great. The fries are okay but again, a pretty good portion. They would have probably been crispier if eaten at the restaurant so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there. The fish itself is cod, which I liked. Soft white bread goes well with sandwich and is not soggy. Good amount of cheese, but its not very flavorful. I added some salt and old bay spices from my home to the fish and the fries, and that really elevated the flavor. Overall, a good sandwich spot. Very fair prices for a quick food spot and a classic Pittsburgh restaurant, but it has its down sides too. For the UI on the Primanti's app: I'd recommend a way to combine past rewards, which you can't do at the moment (ex if you have the $5 reward from downloading the app, and $10 in points, combine them for $15 subtracted from total instead of only choosing to apply the $5 off or the $10 off).
Great food! big portions! loved the fried pickles and deli pickle side order. the first time in the restaurant.
