The Barn was the first place we really had our first negative experience with customer service. We had gotten used to the bland British influence style of food (sorry friends, it's true). But the charm of New Zealand helps you overlook the lack of flavor until you can at least find a Pacific Rim themed place to eat (Malaysian in Wellington was awesome). But the service here was downright cold to go with mediocre food. I don't see why it's ranked so well, as we had much better experiences elsewhere in town!
This was recommended by our hotel. Service was very good prompt and cheerful . The food was okay nothing to write home about. Some of the entrees were unavailable . I got the muscles . They were fresh but in a simple butter sauce that could have had more herbs and seasoning. Overall it was okay food , great service .
Im sorry but I strongly recommend against eating the Barns Fried Chicken. KFC leftover chicken would have been better than what i got. Took it home had 1 bite and the inside was all purple/black had to throw it away. I genererally give fried chicken a pass no matter the quality as theres nothing better but this was not lit
Barn Cafe was a bit of an oddity it looked more like a spit and sawdust pub than restaurant, but with waitress service. Similar to other diners, we didn't find the quality of food all that high but at least there was a decent vegetarian option that wasn't a frittata (butternut squash lasagne to be precise). The SR had ribs. Although neither of us would pretend the meal was all that wonderful, it was definitely average and not the worst place to visit in Picton.
