Moreover, I hate leaving bad reviews due to service, especially when I know that everyone has an off day or night. But my recent experience at Tuk Tuk Real made me think that the front of the house staff may be a persistent and pervasive problem there. While I am a big fan of the food at Tuk Tuk Real (excellent tacos, delicious street corn, fresh fish options, and a good vegetarian selection), the service could use some work. We had to wait to be acknowledged at the hostess stand, despite being seen by no less than 5 people working there, in a restaurant that was far from busy. Tried to mention my Open Table reservation (soooo close to my $100 dining voucher) and was shut down, rather rudely, by the person seating us. Eventually, the Open Table reservation was acknowledged, but by that point the experience was soured. Then we had to ask for silverware, well into our appetizers. These are just a few of the problems we had and/or noticed while there. SuperCAT eats out quite a bit, so we were surprised by the poor service, considering how competitive the restaurant market is in Philadelphia. We'll stick to ordering the superb food via Caviar and skip the dining in experience in the future.
The location isn't my favorite. The food is pretty good. Very similar to something like Distrito. We got a bunch of different tacos. The basil rice was amazing! And the salsa had a nice smokey flavor.
We have gotten take out many time from tuk tuk and have always loved it. Friday we ate at the restaurant and it was a whole different experience. The food came out cold, our soup came out after the entrees and my husband even had to return his lamb. I would recommend this place for take out over and over again, but I may re-think before dinning in again.
We started off with the lamb nachos (with our server's approval) and couldn't have been happier what a flavor combination! I could easily eat this 3 4 times a week. Because this was our first time there, we tried a sampling of many dishes: tortilla soup (thick and smoky), pork tacos (I can't comment because my partner ate them so quickly I had no opportunity to sample), carnitas burrito (huge, flavorful and satisfying), black beans and rice (top notch). Can't wait to return.
This is a find for diners who like a modern take on Thai food. The menu offers unusual items, some of them quite spicy. The staff was very gracious and accommodating. Try the Thai donuts and the banana spring rolls for dessert!
