The cinnamon twist was edible and had good flavor. We found that if you soak the bread in soup, it becomes edible, and the flavors fine, but shouldn't have to do that. They really should experiment with some new recipes.
I bought a birthday cake. When cutting it, it was brick hard and disgusting. It seems like a display cake that shouldn’t have been sold. This is the worst cake I have ever had. No exaggeration. I also bought two cookies that were brick hard. I will NEVER be back to this place and recommend you don’t either. TERRIBLE.
Such a shame, this was once one of the best bakeries in Philly, but they are now HORRIBLE. Spent over $75 on a variety of baked goods, and every single item was dry and flavorless. Butter cookies so dry that they must have forgot butter is an ingredient, rugelach that was so hard that you could use it as a hammer, twists that could chip your teeth, and a bobka so dry that it took two cups of coffee just to force down a slice. I used to go to best cake all the time and was never disappointed, but their offerings are now disgusting, dry, and below the level of even the worst supermarket bakery.
Bought knishes because I thought they would be like the ones from the original Lipkin's on Caster Avenue. Bot NOPE! Had to throw them in the garbage. That bad. Just thick dough with a smear of filling.
This bakery recently changed hands and its better than ever. With the new owner they are offering quite a few flavors of knishes. If you buy six you get one for free. We tried the potato and kasha and they were both great. They are a flavor of old world charm. Their seasonal honey cake was the best commercial cake we've ever had. All in all a wonderful experience. We'll be back soon to try their challah.
