When we arrived close to 1115am there were 4 tables occupied. I can't recall hearing background music this time around, but the dull drone of relatively quiet table talk. My first moves was to head to the biffy.Four young fellas sat at the table to the right of the restroom doors. As I walked by, I counted 3 F-bombs passed among them. On my way back to our table, I stopped at theirs and quietly asked them to garner their language, simply because it's a family venue. To their credit, they assented without incident.Once again, our order was Mini New York steaks, fries, vegetables, water (no ice) X 2One steak medium; one medium rare. One house salad; one cream of potato. All the food on our plates was hot. The steaks were done to order, and in hindsight, we figure we could have switched plates.Different waitress this time and she handled my "surprise me" choices just fine.We packed up by noon. A few more patrons came in, but it wasn't busy.Yup, the decor is a bit tired, but we don't go there to look at banquets and wall dressings. We go there to enjoy each other's company. The best ambiance always is the person sitting beside me, everywhere we go.Thanks Danny's!
LIKED: Came for a group meal during our first visit to Petawawa. My husband was hoping to try this place based on Tripadvisor comments. Basic home cooked fare that was plentiful and tasty. Would definitely go back. Service was really good and friendly. Many locals frequent the place.LIKED less: the decor is a little tired and dated.
When we arrived at 11am, the restaurant was well attended. Maybe six tables free. Apparently we're not the only ones who try to hit restaurants outside of peak mealtimes. Apparently, the townsfolk are content with what Danny's offers.Mini New York steaks, fries, vegetables, house salad, water (no ice) X 2One steak medium; one medium rare. There was no roquefort dressing, so I urged our waitress to "surprise me" and -(neener neener)- Ranch on the side! Fair enough Debra :)Iceberg lettuce was cool and crisp and NOT going brown (yay).Everything on the plate came out hot, well seasoned, in good time, to order.Aha, Take on Me playing in the background barely loud enough for me to hear it clearly. So we didn't have to talk over the ambiance, nor any of the other patrons.Daily specials and dessert menus were on the walls big enough to see from any table. We'll be back.
Well, we were in Petawawa for an unplanned event and didn't arrive with the family until late.We checked in at Kelseys, but it was packed and reviews were mediocre. I am so glad we looked at trip advisor and found Danny's. Truthfully, it doesn't look like much on the outside - only half the sign worked (which is why it took so long to find) and the exterior of the building could use a little TLC.Don't be dismayed.Inside it had all the trappings of a nice, familiar family restaurant. Clean tables and cutlery. The woman who served us was so incredibly kind and accommodating, she created a warm, inviting and lovely atmosphere. Then came time to order the food... My wife and I went with the prime rib special, while our kids ordered chicken souvlaki, a children's menu hamburger and a children's menu spaghetti. Little did we know how everything in that restaurant is made from scratch and fresh ingredients. Even the fries are cut in the shop. The prime rib was perfectly done to use liking, and everything else - even the large meatballs on the spaghetti were delicious. Portion sizes were gigantic. And don't forget we came with less than an hour before closing... so if there was ever a time for a restaurant to cheap out on a meal, it was then.Danny's didn't at all. What a great place. For the first time in a very long time our family - even our little girl - left stuffed.Danny's was an exceptional find for us and we wouldn't ever hesitate to stop back in if we are coming through the area.Screw chain restaurants. Danny's puts them to absolute shame. Petawawa should be proud to have such a cool retro hidden gem in their midst.
