For $55 for a 5 course meal this was a must the food was fresh and tasty we had a shared plate with duck buns, wontons and spring rolls to start before moving on to a whole snapper, kung poe chicken and fried rice and ending with deep fried ice cream with a caramel sauce. The $10 Chinese inspired cocktails were also a hit. The only downside was there was no Chinese dragon dancers and games as advertised and the magician wasn't around for long, there was a 45 minute wait between entree and main but that can be forgiven. We can't wait to come back and try the regular menu. We recently moved from Melbourne to Perth and this place tops the iconic Chin Chins in Melbourne.
I really liked the food here, it's not a cheap eat that's for sure but a tasty menu. We had the roasted cashews, chicken ribs, pork belly and jungle curry. I'd defiantly come back. Only gripe is the over attentive service. Felt like every 5 minutes they were over asking if everything was OK. To be honest I found that disrupted our conversation. We also asked for our leftovers to be packed up. The food was taken away and when we asked where it was we were told that they don't allow for leftovers to be taken. Yep, service needs work.
I avoid Asian fusion because it's usually a poor imitation of the real thing and TAD unfortunately doesn't fair much better. We got a total of 6 dishes, and it seems like they just "reinvent" existing things by overloading it with more flavor. This worked for the most part but for others not so much. The stir-fry hofan (rice noodle) and mushroom fried rice were too salty. Classic dishes are altered but not improved, the Peking duck was served with buns which was silly and made it less appealing. The porkbelly and ingredient quality stood out though, service was also attentive and friendly. A thing should be said about the atmosphere too which seems to appeal to the privileged.
I wish it was better ???? Maybe we ordered badly - pork belly char sui hokkein noodles, micky's duck buns and sweet and sour pork. Char sui was grey and tough without any delicious sweet pork flavour. 3 small dices of pork belly were tasty but could've been crispier. The duck buns were a generous serve (4 large buns) but the duck was too finely broken down, lacking flavour and texture. I found two decent-sized bones hidden in mine. I was a little surprised this was only rectified by halfing the charge for that item. The sweet and sour pork was no better than your average suburban Chinese restaurant fare - I was expecting a twist! Service was efficient and friendly enough, prices were extortionate. A bit of a shame because I genuinely think it's one of the best spots in Perth for the atmosphere, drinks and decor - I used to regularly recommend it but wouldn't be heading back after this experience. ????
Cannot go wrong with Apple Daily. I have dined here over 15 times and they consistently deliver. The flavours and quality of food is great. My favourite is the duck buns, delish! Service is also great and that staff are happy to help with the long wine menu.
