However, the other two dishes we tried were not up to par for me. I don't doubt the quality, they just may not have been the right fit for my taste. I suggest giving this place a second chance with more careful selections. It's a good idea to ask questions when ordering as this Chinese cuisine may be different from what you're used to. We had a very friendly young waiter who I'm sure would be happy to help guide you. It's worth the effort because some of the dishes here are really delicious.
We originally planned to go to Chilli Panda for lunch, but instead, we came across Zen Sichuan restaurant and decided to give it a try. Coming from Malaysia and Singapore, my family loves Sichuan food. We were not disappointed with the food here. It was flavorful and delicious, with just the right amount of spiciness that didn't overpower the taste of the dishes. The restaurant is small but cozy and clean. It is now located at 188 Newcastle St, not Williams St. I highly recommend it.
My son and I, we are addicted to their blue manna crab cooked BLACK PEPPER DRY (not on menu, special request) first we tried the menu on Chilli Crab it was delicious and my son enjoyed it but the green peppercorn not to my liking, we tried the Black Pepper first was WET saucy one then we tried the DRY one and we are hooked! The tofu, garlic taste so good and so is the crab and for $35 its cheap! And luck we live upstairs. Service was nice and friendly....we go there weekly sometimes twice a week! BTW They are situated at Zen Apartment complex at 188 Newcastle St not at Williams St, its smallish and cosy.....
It was a very interesting experience, the food was fine, not outstanding, not bad. Service was very good.
Having returned last week from China I was interested to see if we had a restaurant with authenticity. I was very pleased to discover this restaurant with very. Authentic food. The black fun gas and razor clams were just as we had in Xi'an. The spicy fish replicated what we had twice in China except that in China the fish was teamed and had more peanuts. The food was spicy as requested but could have been toned down if that was the desire. For me it was perfect. It is on the Entertainment card which meant that the reasonable price became a bargain. If you want authentic Chinese spicy cuisine I have not found better in Perth.
