The portion size is medium and slightly more pricier than Sundays Myaree however the presentation is exquisite and definitely a more elaborate dining experience. I got the Katsu Chicken which was hot and crispy which was similar to what I have tried in Japan. Atmosphere was dull and gloomy and could do with more lighting and possibly some complimenting music.
This restaurant offers delicious Japanese cuisine at great prices with large portions. Their bento boxes provide a wide selection of dishes, making it a satisfying meal even for those who do not frequently eat Japanese food.
The food here is not bad. Great for small and larger groups. The teriyaki salmon rice box is quite tasty! They put some seasoning on the rice which was yummy. The fish katsu was also not bad. We also ordered the miso soup (note they come in a small and large size which is a bonus for me because I love miso soup! . Price is quite reasonable considering the serving size. Would come back and try their sushi. They have an extensive menu.
I like the CONCEPT of choosing the different size of your meal depending on what you feel like eating. In Ohnamiya, every meal comes in different option: whether you just want the main, with rice only, or in a sushi box, deluxe box and so on. It allows flexibility as different people may have different hungry level.<br/ I like Ohnamiya – it’s simple, homey, and reasonably price Japanese cuisine. Their taste is not too bad either, although one or two times you may encounter a rather salty meal (mind the consistency) which you can just ask them to replace. My favorite would be the Karaage Chicken and Teriyaki Fish (usually I ordered the Rice Box at $9.80 and $11 respectively). Portion is average.<br/ <br/ Edit: Tried the Karaage Chicken Chilli Don – it is officially my favorite now. Soft chicken packed in variety of flavour!<br/ <br/ Located in Hulme Court allows plenty of carparking with Utopia just next door if you feel like bubble tea. If not, do try their Panna Cotta – it’s small but only for $6. It is quite worth it.
Went for dinner and was surprised by the decor and no table service. Food was cheap compared to our usual and hubby was a fan of his sushi and takoyaki. Daughter and I had the teriyaki chicken and while she enjoy it I found the sauce very watery and lacking flavour. Portions were small but I guess you get what you pay for. Service was what I expected,
