Hidden bar down a street. I used to be in my unitagen here. but now when I'm in town. Previously it was a little dimming, but they all switched on lights so that it is quite bright. childa lost the pupil vibe.
Tldr summary: for the majority (90 of regular customers/customers who are not-whisky nerds/enthusiasts, the current experience of the new bar employee has been ok since Jan/Feb 2022 and the bar will be worn by its many number of official bottling (the fair to be beaten their usual sporty to meile). but as a nerd / enthusiast myself, I can no longer call helvetica honestly a big whisky bar, as the workers have only knowledge/experience that is somewhat better than their average/normal bar. to the happiness, this is at least justified by the fact that the new employees are friendly, patient and accumical. as a whisky bar, I would have given helvetica in the past (2019-2021) with the previous managers and crew a solid 4/5, but at the moment (March 2022) I can justify nothing more than 3/5. to earn a 4 or 5 review, will require an even larger / extended selection of whiskys and employees with more knowledge / experience, e.g. whisky and alement in melbourne, which is currently the gold standard imho. RTFM details: an ok on above average experience when considered as “normal/regular” bar. but its no longer the same A-Class whisky bar quality/experience as before. I often visited in 2019-2021 and they had a fantastic crew of bar staff who were familiar and experienced with whisky. according to the new staff, for the last 10 years it is still the same owner of all previous employees who were more knowledgeable there. since Jan/Feb 2022 they now have a new manager and a barcrew. if I judged it strictly as a whisky bar. Pros:The right glassware (glancairn) are still used for whiskys, water drops is available, the selection of whisky is still quite decent and quite decent for a whisky bar 95% of the 200-300ish bottles are official bottling and the rest are independent bottling) and the overallambiance is still the same as before. the prices of whiskys are average/acceptable. Cons:Major closure is knowing this and the experience of the current bar employees who do not seem to know their product that is good and fighting to locate them in their regals. if they are a whisky enthusiasts who are regularly in ibs and less mainstream-Whiskys delves. they will be disappointed by the height of the whisky experience / service / interaction that the new staff can offer. do not expect to conduct a conversation or to educate with the history of distillery and how the whisky is made (distillery info such as malt info, silent features, distillate features, cask types / influence, etc). due to the lack of whisky-specific experience that will find and get a pouring out a certain/less known option is a challenge and will take some time. this is done by the fact that they no longer have a full whisky menu (or at least I was not offered). I would expect at least the manager or a coworker to have a high/good level of whisky experience in a whisky bar, but unfortunately this was not the case. imho, the degradation in “whisky bar specific” service/experience is further enhanced by the fact that the helvetica bar is no longer part of the whisky clubs (one of the larger Australian whisky clubs) of clubs. also they no longer have the free cold cuts and cheese plates for guests as they used in 2019-2021, which is a lobster! the only great comfort here is that the employees are at least friendly, patient and very accredited for my specific requirements for ibs and less well-known bots.
A few times. had a whisky flight once. pretty impressive collection of whisky. I like it's a little dead.
The former management knew everything about the whiskeys and regions they came from.
