A variety of menus were promptly brought to us by one of Maria’s efficient team members. We were offered a choice of olive bread, sourdough, or freshly baked baguette, served with homemade garlic butter sprinkled with crushed Himalayan rock salt. Our drink selections included a pint of Southwold Ale, Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla Tonic, and a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Three of us opted for traditional roasts, while one chose the Snapper, all of which were beautifully presented with a side of freshly steamed vegetables. After thoroughly enjoying our main courses, we perused the dessert menu, which offered a tempting array of options. We selected the Eton Currant Mess, Rhubarb Crumble, and a Cheese Board, all of which were exquisitely prepared and satisfying to the palate. The Cheese Board featured a selection of English cheeses, brie, blue cheese, and mature Cheddar, accompanied by a fruit garnish including quince jelly. Overall, our experience at The Barley Mow was exceptional, with excellent service, delicious food, and a welcoming ambiance. We highly recommend this restaurant for a memorable dining experience.
The food and drinks were amazing, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. It's no surprise that it's always busy, as there is nothing to fault. I would highly recommend it.
We went to the restaurant on a Saturday in early September after booking the night before. The service was excellent - friendly, inclusive, helpful, knowledgeable, and very welcoming. There were seven of us (four adults, three kids) and the food was exceptional for all of us. The fish pie, fish and chips, and kids' meals were all fantastic. The chef's special, pork tenderloin with sriracha slaw, was the best pub food I have ever had. The portion size was generous and the cooking was great. We will definitely return.
Something has gone very wrong here! Usually a good vibe and excellent food, sadly our latest trip was anything but. The waiting staff appeared harassed and the manageress had the sort of face on that stopped you wanting to ask for anything! She was in the midst of snapping at the chap behind the bar when we arrived, and we had to wait til this was over before he showed us to our table. Turns out there was no rush! We waited 40 minutes for drinks and menus, another hour for food, the mains then appeared before the starters had been cleared away and every single dish was awful. Three of us had three different dishes and they all disappointed. I counted three prawns in a prawn cocktail, there were whole lumps of essentially raw garlic in the baked Camembert and the soup looked straight out of a tin. My friend had halloumi and fries and the halloumi was the size of a piece of haddock! In fact, we thought it was fish until she cut in to it. I’d say someone in the kitchen also thought it was fish as it had a serving of tartare sauce with it! Th chicken pie was drenched in gravy and soggy and the sea bream burnt. We felt sorry for our waitress who looked as if she was about to cry so we picked our way through the most disgusting meal I’ve eaten in a long time, paid and left . Didn’t bother with pud funnily enough.
Popped in here for lunch with a friend Great little bar with restaurant and nice garden out the back.
