After reading reviews on tripadvisor, we decided that we would order regardless of the decoration, as we did not want to eat. I asked if the food we had ordered was vegetarian. the chef confirmed that it was...to ask others the chef said that they would use pork as part of their camp. I said that eating was advertised as vegetarian, cook did not seem to care that he did not serve vegetarian. the cook was rude and abrupt, and extremely unprofessional when asked about eating. is not returned to this device
To enter the mandain was like to step back in time. it was clearly necessary to renovate and we feared the worst in terms of food. we took the chance anyway and were glad we did. eating was good and good.
Booked this Chinese restaurant as it was 50/50 choice with another in the same town that we were going to watch a theatre production. Table was booked for 0545pm and we arrived as the only customers at this time of day. Ordered food, which came...quickly; my wife had beef in black bean sauce and I had sweet and sour chicken. The sauces in both cases didn't quite resemble what we were used to in a Chinese but was passable. The decor was extremely drab and shabby. There were holes in our seats and chips in the food serving plates (not the kind you can eat To be fair my brother enjoyed his lemon chicken. I don't think we will be going back!
Positives: Excellent food (can't find a single fault) Clean Quick Negatives: Decor is dated Waitress was over keen which made you feel rushed (as soon as we emptied a dish she removed ot within seconds) We were the only 4 customers in there but two...people came in to get takeaway while we were there. When we first walked in we questioned each other about what we'd let ourselves in for. We were pleasently surprised, the food was excellent (ordered spring rolls, king prawn balls sweet and sour, chicken curry, chicken and pork with beansprouts, chicken omelette plus boiled fried rice) couldn't fault it. The bill for 4 plus drinks was just under £40 and worth every penny. Would highly recommend!!!
The previous contributors are right when they say that this location must be updated. I have no complaints about eating. I often order to take one or eat. eating is always hot, with generous portions. compared to other local Chinese restaurants I would say that eating in mandarin is a good cut over the rest in terms of taste. most, most pleasant.
