Salsa Picante is a hidden gem located in the North Lake Square shopping center. This family-owned and operated Mexican restaurant offers a wide variety of authentic, handmade dishes. The kitchen staff prepares everything from scratch with love, providing a satisfying and comforting dining experience. They have been serving up delicious meals in a traditional, old-school style for years. Recently, they have updated their take-out options by offering online ordering in addition to phone orders. Despite a few negative reviews, I urge them to listen to the many local regulars who have had positive experiences. Personally, I have enjoyed the al pastor tacos and the wet burrito, and look forward to trying the green pork burrito. I also decided to try the cheeseburger and fries based on recommendations, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The burger was fresh, delicious, and larger than most fast food options, making it a great value. Additionally, the fries were hot and crispy, making for a satisfying meal. Having lived in Lubbock for about two years, I have to say this is the best Mexican restaurant in the city. I have never been disappointed with anything I have tried here! As someone who often doesn't cook like my mother anymore, I can confidently say that this place is the next best thing to home-cooked meals. The tacos al pastor are perfect! But it's not just about the food - what sealed the deal for me in loving this place was the owner, Jaime. He is an absolute joy! Jaime was incredibly hospitable and treated us like family.
