I had relatively low expectations for Dollie's. I was really just looking for decent food, decent beer and a nice place to hang out down the street from my family's place in Paia. The food was fine, beer selection is standard for what's available on the island, servers are nice enough. The reason I can't really recommend Dollie's to anyone is the sound levels when they have live music. I LOVE live music, and the bands I've heard playing there recently are all fine. The problem is the volume level. For reference, I'm a young person. I've never complained about volume at a restaurant. Dollie's, however, cranked the volume on the smooth jazz samba band to 105-110dB the other night. 110dB is INSANELY loud. Humans can take about 30 minutes of that volume before it starts permanently damaging your hearing. Not to mention, it made it completely impossible to have a conversation with wait staff or anyone at the table. Live music is great, and everything else at Dollie's is inoffensive enough to enjoy yourself, but there is absolutely no reason to turn the volume up to levels you'd experience at an actual concert when there are 10 people in the restaurant.
Bartender was overwhelmed but very friendly. Supprt staff and manager clearly lacking. I paid $15 for a salad. It 's laughable how underwhelmed I am. I live here and get maui prices but come TF on. Do not eat here! Total tourist trap.
Came in on a Sunday afternoon, to catch some football since we we walking around Paia killing time before heading to the airport. We were sat pretty quickly, only about a third of the restaurant was filled. A server stopped at our table to see if we wanted drinks, and asked to start off with water as we were still browsing the menu. Our initial intention was to have a couple pup 's and beers. But then, it took almost 10 minutes for our water to come. In those 10 minutes, 2 othee servers came to our table to get drink orders.. That was a little confusing, as most restaurants give their servers a section . It made us wonder how long it would take for everything else? When our waters arrived, we ordered the reggae rolls, and then waited again. Our reggae rolls arrived, but we weren 't given any utensils or napkins, so we waved a server over for some and then proceeded to enjoy our reggae rolls. They were actually pretty good, and I liked the mango chutney it was served with. But it was an extremely small portion (2 lumping sized rolls cut in half) for about $14. Geeez! I like spending money on food, but $14 or 2 lumpia rolls is ridiculous, I don 't care if you 're in tourist town. I 'll probably never visit Dollies again when on Maui, I know of a lot of better eateries. I won 't even get into the part where a server almost dropped a beer glass on another customer, and the took so long to grab cleaning supplies that the customer was picking glass up off the floor with his bare hands! Anyway, that was my rant about our experience. Hope this place does better.
We went Saturday night and happened upon “locals” night with live music and a fun atmosphere for families and couples, plus college football on multiple TV’s. Nice people and very reasonable prices.
