Woofie's Hot Dogs - Overland

Wow, I've lived in St. Louis my entire life and I'm 52 years old! I always thought Woofies only served hot dogs, but to my surprise, I found out they also serve hamburgers, and they were delicious! I highly recommend trying them out, but I do wish they were open later than just 5 PM.

I visited on May 9, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the food was prepared perfectly—though I would say the salt was a tad excessive, but that's my only minor complaint. When it comes to assembling a Chicago dog, they hit the mark every single time. Both the previous and current owners clearly care about maintaining quality, and it shows in every bite. I've been a patron for 40 years, and I've never had a bad experience—not even once. We travel about an hour each way just to enjoy their Woofie dogs. In the past, I've even bought the proper ingredients to make my own, including crafting my own poppy seed buns, but it just doesn't compare. If you haven't tried them yet, I highly recommend it. I always worry that they might close one day, and St. Louis would lose an iconic establishment. There's really no other place to get an authentic Chicago dog, except maybe in Chicago itself. And yes, don’t forget the celery salt for me!

Woofies is an excellent spot for hot dogs, hamburgers, and Italian beef. The hot dogs truly take center stage here, featuring Chicago-style options among others. They are undeniably some of the best I've tasted in St. Louis. Don’t overlook the burgers, though; they're made in a smash style and executed perfectly. They remind me of classic fast food but done exceptionally well. As for the Italian beef, I'm still getting acquainted with it, so I can only compare it to about five or six other places I've tried. Nevertheless, I find it genuinely delicious, and I sometimes choose it over the hot dog or burger. The fries are tasty, although not extraordinary. Also, they serve cherry Coke, which is a nice and relatively rare treat!

Woofies is my favorite spot; they always get my order right, and the food is consistently excellent.
