They came over and translated the menu to English for us and since we had been traveling and not feeling the best, they were so kind to put it in a to go bin for us. Great little stop!
Fair prices, well made regional dishes migas , made with bread, pork with fresh cumin); the place itself isn 't especially cozy, but the hosts are impeccable. Fair prices
For the Alentejo area this restaurant is just average. Small portions for the price and average service.
We asked a local, about a good restaurant in Ourique and he promptly suggested Lobo. Very good bread, black pork, sirigaita (typical Alentejo dessert). Will surely come again. Very nice staff, located in the center of Ourique village.
We were not greeted too warmly, but this may have been because we arrived looking for food around 3pm. But if they had stopped serving it may have been more polite just to say so instead of a miserable face. She just pointed to the plate of the day on the menu so I assumed this was all we could have. As there was no translation I assumed we opted for rabbit. There was another couple who were seated just as we arrived and when their food arrived, it was evident they had picked off the main menu. However, the food when it arrived was very tasty, although the meat was just a little overcooked. Also, when we came to pay with our card we were told they did not accept VISA. In this day and age this would appear to be very outdated. Plus I think they should have pointed this out at the outset. It could have been very embarrassing if we had no cash on us.
