There is a wait sometimes as they are making it fresh to go but it is worth the wait. The pita pie and kebabs are wonderful. If you are looking for some excellent middle eastern food and friendly service, this is the place. Had the fries only once but they were also wonderful.
At 1:00 pm today went for lunch. As I entered 8 people just finishing up their meals. The restaurant seats around 30-35 people. Decor plain, washrooms spotless.Staff friendly.I decided on a sandwich and chose the Kabab Shami (garlic humus, lettuce, tomato, pickles, turnip, ground beef) "Adana" ='s Spicy combo which comes with fries, and a can of pop (I decided on plain tea from the urn at the front counter-tea was good)The order was delivered to my table. The sandwich came rolled in a medium Pita bread with a wax paper next to the bread and then aluminum foil on top of that-accompanied by a very nice spicy garlic dip (for your sandwich and/or the fries). The sandwich was warm, tasty, and with a nice medium hot bite. There was lots of beef...The fries were some of the best I've ever had-golden crispy on the outside, soft inside and sprinkled with a good tasting spice (no vinegar or anything else needed !)While waiting (took around 10-15 minutes for order to arrive) I noticed 5 other people came in and ordered take out.My bill with tax came to $11.29. Most lunches anywhere today run you around $15-$18 with a beverage and tax.It was a good meal and to me good value for the money. I'm not really into skewers of kebabs with rice, but will probably try one in the future just to see.I noticed a variety of "Pita Pie" offerings on the menu and the next time I'll try one of these.
Based on the recommendation of Peter Hum, a food writer for the "Ottawa Citizen", hubby and I sought out "Pita Bell" for lunch yesterday. I would have never paid it a second thought if it hadn't been for the recommendation. It is a small spot, at the end of a small strip mall on Carling Ave. To look at it you would think it's your run of the mill Pita place. But.....it is not.Hubby ordered the Filet Mignon Sandwich ($7.95) which is basically a Filet Mignon Shawarma. Plenty of grilled meat inside. He LOVED it. I ordered the Chicken Pita Pie ($10.95). Exquisite. Grilled marinated chicken, cheese, and peppers on top a freshly charcoal baked pillowy pita crust, with a little serving of garlicky garlic sauce to slather over top. Wow. The kitchen contains a huge charcoal grill and I mean huge. Whole lamb is actually on the menu, served with rice, hummus, garlic sauce and garden salad, as long as you give them one day's notice. A whole lamb!!!!!!The menu is very large. Kababs, Shish Taouk, Lamb Chops, Falafel, Whole and half grilled chickens, grilled wings! All of their meat is cooked on the charcoal grill and you can tell. This is not your ordinary fast food joint. While there two other customers went up to the counter and told the owner? how great their meal was and that they'd be back soon. The interior is very plain and nothing fancy, but you won't be concentrating on what's around you, you'll be digging into that plate set before you. GO! This is a really great spot.
Despite the odd name, The Pita Bell has some solid food. We're always in search of great Middle Eastern food. As we've had take out from them before, we decided to pre-order for a 5-person supper (family-style) and ended up getting several Bell Mix 6 platters which was the 3 kinds of grilled meat: chicken, filet mignon and kefta (beef not lamb - thank you!). These came with copious amounts of rice, we got extra hummus + garlic sauce but wasn't necessary (but still very yummy). They also had pita bread with a spicy tomato mixture in between - also great! The salad was bland but, let's be honest - are you going to Pita Bell for salad? Nope! The chicken was well done but not dried out, the filet was the same and the kefta...well, we'll be ordering again. We had the Kunafa for dessert. I'm familiar with it so I thought it was delish. Great job Pita Bell! We shall return.
Not a 'fast food' place by any stretch of the imagination. You will wait a very long time for your food. But when you get it the food is amazing. The Pita Pie in particular is a must try. It's had to explain but impossible not to love. Their prices are average but portions are big. Highly recommend (that you call ahead also)
