I say to myself, but where do I get something healthy at 10:15pm <br/ <br/ so, like most of you I pull out my iPhone and use urbanspoon and start going through the list of places that have healthy food.. All closed. Then I see this place and its a bit of a trek from me, but again I'm starving so why not?! <br/ <br/ They answer and after a brief explanation of my hunger he says we're closed, but give me 10 min and I'll put something together for you.. <br/ <br/ I get there in 10 min, they unlock the door and let me in.. Very pleasant and greeting people by the way.. <br/ <br/ They put together a trio with 3 meats, potatoes, salad, rice, bread and probably the tastiest hot sauce I've ever had all for 20$ <br/ <br/ I get home and eat all of it and before I can digest, I'm writing you my experience with this place.. Not only because they opened for me, but because it was truly unbelievable food! <br/ <br/ Eat here, you won't regret doing so.. Best middle eastern food in Ottawa I've ever had.
Highly recommended,. I tried their 'sultani ' it was really good. The meat was juicy tender, while the spices were mild, yet flavourful.
This restaurant is truly exceptional, being the only one of its kind in Montreal and Ottawa. I traveled all the way from Montreal to Ottawa specifically for this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed my experience so much that I waited until 9:30 pm to have dinner before heading back to Montreal. I am a food enthusiast, and if the food tastes and looks good, I will keep coming back, regardless of the price. Highly recommend!
This Arab restaurant is a refreshing change from the ordinary. The staff are friendly and helpful, even when there's a line behind you. The mantoo and Chicken Shami were tasty and prepared quickly. Although the Doogh was out of stock, the food was delicious with a unique flavor. It may be a bit pricier than other options, but it's worth a try. Consider ordering a combo dish like the Lamb shank or regular beef or chicken for a more authentic experience.
The quality of the food and cuts of meat were outstanding. We ordered the Lamb kabob and Chicken kabob plates with a side of potato and green onion Boolani. The food was prepared in front of us as we waited. The plates came with fragrant spicy rice and a simple salad. The rice had a delicious spice that elevated the dish, while the salad was fresh with a tasty homemade garlic dressing. Both meats were tender and flavorful with the perfect amount of heat. The Afghan naan was a bit dry, but it may have been intentional. There was a side dish that resembled fresh salsa, which we debated whether it was meant for dipping the meat or the naan. Regardless, it added a nice touch to the meal. The Boolani was a pleasant surprise and reminded us of a superior quesadilla, served warm with a creamy dipping sauce. The portions were generous, and we had leftovers to take home. The naan tasted even better when reheated for dinner later. The prices were comparable to a regular Shawarma platter or Souvlaki. The atmosphere was quiet and enjoyable, with no loud TVs or music. The restaurant was very clean, which was a bonus compared to some places on downtown Bank St. The decor included Afghani art and pictures, although it may not win any design awards. It's a great spot for a casual meal or takeout. The service was friendly and attentive, with orders taken at the cash register and food brought directly to the table. I plan to try their version of a Shawarma, called a Shami, on my next visit. Overall, two platters, the Boolani, and two soft drinks came to about $43 with a small tip.
