Second time at Burgers on Beechwood. Very disappointing. Glassware was dirty, service was so slow that I had to leave, so cannot comment on the food this time. Servers at both this establishment and a few months ago at Arturo's we're too laid back and not up to my standard. If I were the owner I would be worried and do something about it.
There are way better burger places to go to in ottawa. This place was really disappointing from atomsphere to the food. Definitely not worth the money 3 burgers and beer almost 60 bucks and the staff was quick with the order and then an hour later we got our food...only to be disappointed sorry you get 1 star
I checked out this new restaurant since it 's near the Metro on Beechwood, and everyone knows it 's a bad idea to go grocery shopping while hungry. It recently opened in a space that apparently used to be Arturo 's and is operated by the same people as Arturo 's. I assume if, unlike me, you 've lived in Ottawa for more than a few weeks that might be meaningful information for you. It certainly looks like it was an Italian restaurant not very long ago red and white checked table cloths abound, and already have holes in them, suggesting that the place wasn 't redecorated when it changed focus. That 's just speculation, though, since I was never in the old restaurant. It 's a fancy burger place with a number of gourmet topping combinations on the menu, or a build your own option. I had a Cybearg, which was kind of ... fine, I guess? It 's served on a really good, fresh bun of the chewy roll variety rather than the softer brioche that a lot of fancy burger places favour. It came with bacon jam and relish, dijon mustard that overpowered every other flavour, and a couple of onion rings. The menu says it 's supposed to have dijoinnaise on it, but I think it was probably just straight dijon mustard dijonnaise would have been less overwhelming I suspect. If you 're the type of burger fan who is always on the lookout for a great medium rare or medium burger, be forewarned that they didn 't ask and the patty was cooked past well done and into 'pretty dry ' territory. Not hockey puck overcooked, but more than any decent hamburger needs to be cooked. Perhaps if they didn 't feel obligated to overcook the patties, it also wouldn 't have taken half an hour to get the burger. The high point was definitely the fries, which were crisp on the outside and well cooked on the inside and nice and salty. They could use another minute draining in the fryer basket to keep them from being quite so oily, but the oil does make the salt stick better, doesn 't it? Housemade ketchup is not an improvement over Heinz, but then it never really is, is it? This is a new place, and although this review isn 't super positive, I feel like it has potential, at least to be a decent option in the neighbourhood. I go by it every day on the bus, so I 'm sure I 'll try it again in a month or two when they 've had time to figure out some of their timing issues and tweak things a little. I 'm hopeful it will improve.
First off, the service is really friendly. Unfortunately that's pretty much the only thing they've got going. We went for brunch and we were the only 2 in the resto on a holiday Monday. My husband ordered their special crab omelette and he says that the flavour was pretty good (I couldn't try it because I'm allergic) but nothing extraordinary, especially since it was $17. It was served with homefries and Wonder bread toast and one slice of tomato I'm assuming for colour as it was pretty tasteless. I ordered the chilli burrito which I was really looking forward to but when served, looked very dry and stale. The filling was nothing spectacular and especially not for $15. It too was served with homefries and wonder bread white toast. Unfortunately the only thing going for this restaurant is the friendliness. But sadly I can't afford $50 just because the owner and staff are nice. So unfortunate because it's right in my neighbourhood. We won't be back.
