The food is delicious and served with genuine charm and courtesy. He is a one-man band (or was when we visited at lunchtime) and also made all the artwork and ironmongery on display, including the chairs. Eat in the small garden if you can. €26 for two courses, a coffee and water, no wine. This is the sort of place that keeps us coming back to Italy.
Tucked away on a narrow street near the duomo, we happened upon this tiny restaurant with a completely gorgeous and enchanting hidden garden. Michele Golia, artist and host has designed this unique space, cooks and serves the really delicious food, and totally charms his guests. This is a very special place. Eat in the garden if you can.
Our most wonderful memory of Orvieto is meeting Michele and having dinner at his restaurant surrounded with beautiful art! His hospitality was heartwarming and the food was excellent with vegetables from his garden. It was truly a pleasure and will always treasure the experience! Can't wait to go back: Thank you, Michele!!!
Food was delicious. Service was attentive. Host was very nice and welcoming. This is a wonderful place to have lunch or dinner surrounded by amazing art. Definitely not a tourist trap. We will return for another wonderful dinner!
Mangiatilarte is a very unique restaurant in that Michael, the owner is a one man show. He is the artist, the cook, the hostess and server all in one. He has a great personality and is a wonderful cook. His lasagne was the best that I have eaten so far in Italy. He speaks English and is very gracious. All of the food was freshly made by him and it will easily take an hour for lunch. He will bring a plater of assorted meats, cheeses and pear, which was all very good and fresh. The only negative of Mangiatilarte is the hidden cost. The entrees are €8 but the meats, water, wine and beer can add up, our bill for 6 was €102 which is kinda steep for lunch but it was a great experience and Michael was a wonderful host! Visit his toilet while you are there because he adds the artist flair which makes it very unique.
