We were in Gettysburg for an overnight stay. My son wanted to eat at Hickory Bridge Farm. We went on a Friday night, and the restaurant was closed. An employee told us to come back on Saturday for lunch. The website said the restaurant opened at 11:30, but it was closed when we arrived. We went back at 3:30 when it opened, but we had eaten lunch and didn't have big appetites. The food is good. Meals are served family style, which I enjoy. We had a side salad and bread to start, two meats (pork and chicken) and five sides for the main course, and a choice of desserts from the menu. The staff is friendly.
Our group goes here at least once every summer. Food is served family style with bowls and plates refilled as required. Last week we had ribs, fried chicken and crab imperial as our mains...then we had spiced peaches, warm bread, carrots, broccoli, parmesan encrusted potatoes and corn fritters. There was also a good selection of desserts to pick from(included with meal)...I had apple crisp w/ice cream. All was delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and catered to all our dining needs. The owner or manager swung by our table to make sure everything was good!!
Celebrating family! What a gorgeous atmosphere to enjoy a family style meal that was absolutely amazing. The staff were excellent in their attention, especially since a member of our family is in a wheelchair. The selections and portions of food were right on target, but the taste... We had barbecued spare ribs, chicken and crab imperial. Mouth watering!! All side dishes were just as tasty and the hush puppies were an added bonus. Before being seated, we were even treated to a cold ice tea and hors d'oeuvres. (A recipe that could be found in their very own cookbook, if you wanted to try it at home. An excellent meal in a unique setting.
We were a party of four, I was so excited to go. When we got there and saw the gardens and the whole set up I was still very excited for my first visit there. While the service was good, the cost of $40 pp is too much for the mediocre at best food. The entrees were fried chicken, bbq ribs and crab imperial. The bbq ribs were country ribs and hard and tough as a rock, none of us could eat them, the fried chicken was not fried but baked fried and they were pieces like when you get frozen portion cut pieces. The hot bacon dressing was very good but not a piece of bacon could be found and all they had was iceberg lettuce, that big garden and just iceberg lettuce??? I would not return nor recommend. I am really surprised they are still in business, but, it would be a lovely location to open a family style restaurant with a good cook!
