Tailwinds Grill - Orillia

The patio has a nice and relaxing atmosphere where you can watch the float planes take off and land. The food was excellent, especially the Frenched pork schnitzel and Tailwind club sandwich that we ordered. Overall, I would rate the food a perfect 5 out of 5.

In my opinion, the amount of tip paid should be earned by the waiter/waitress based on the service they provide... it should not be dictated by management's greed. At this restaurant they impost a mandatory 20% tip for everyone in a group of 8 or more. I will not be told how much I must tip, and will not be returning to Tailwinds again.

Reservations method needs improving. I called at 11:59 a.m. and as prompted by the message, left the details for a reservation that evening. At 3:10 p.m. I had not heard back so I called to check on the reservation and was told that there was no reservation under our name and they were full for the evening. I commented that it would have been nice to receive a phone call telling me that as this was the midway point for people meeting coming from the North and south of the restaurant. I was then very haughtily informed that they only check their messages at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. I suggested that might be valuable information to add to their outgoing message. When I called the other party to cancel our dinner plans, I was reminded that a similar situation had occurred the last time we had wanted to meet there, but at least when I called to check on the status of the reservation, they had room to accommodate us. Although the food is decent, this is not the place to arrange an impromptu meal based on the way they manage their reservation system in my opinion. We likely will not be back.
